LMM (Pierburg) cleaning

This is my first post on this forum, and the topic has already been extensively discussed, but I still have a few questions!

Therefore, I have read quite a few posts on this topic and have become much wiser as a result.

Ulf had in his LMM tuning topic visually represented Pierburg, and I noticed that on the engine side, the filter had been removed. Does that make sense? Perhaps regarding advantages related to flow?

My LMM (air-to-air intercooler) from my Golf 4 TDI AHF 81 kW is fortunately equipped with the thick Pierburg unit, and so far, with approximately 190,000 km, it hasn't caused any problems, except for gradually decreasing maximum speed, a lack of power in the middle speed range (2000 - 3500 RPM), and increased fuel consumption!

Okay, LMM expanded and, lo and behold,
is really dirty and I'm going to verschandeln it now.

I was thinking about trying to use cleaning spray from electronics (Kontakt Chemie) instead, since brake cleaner is quite aggressive. What do you think about that?

On the engine side, I carefully removed the filter to better spray the sensor.
Should I reattach the protective screen?

Let's see if it works, I'll report back!

I would definitely re-install the filter. From a flow perspective, there shouldn't be any measurable difference. However, I'm surprised that your filter was so dirty. Have you driven with a sports air filter or even without any filter at all?

My dad also cleaned his (sudden acceleration on the highway).
He cleaned it with degreasing benzine. By the way, it's also a Pierburg.
After cleaning, it was like new.

I've left the grid on the air filter side, but I removed it on the engine side!

Ich denke darüber nach, Kurbelgehäuseentlüftung, vielleicht dient das Sieb als grober Ölabscheider, um den Sensor nicht direkt zu verstopfen.

Regarding your question about... Sportlufi, everything is original!
It just has 190,000 km on the odometer, although when I bought the car a year ago with 150,000 km, the cover behind the air intake of the headlight was missing, meaning the engine was sucking air from the engine bay

Just wanted to briefly report that I have cleaned the LMM (Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor) and have noticed a significant increase in performance. Also, the Vmax (maximum speed) of 200 km/h is easily achieved!
Fuel consumption, I'll just have to wait and see.
