Hello guys!

As I was trying to verschandeln the Pierburg mass airflow sensor of my 1.9 TDI 66 kW engine again, I unfortunately broke the delicate sensor plate in the middle of the sensor tube. icon_cry.gif

Is it possible to fix my mistake by soldering the pad back on?
Who has already tried it?
Can I bypass the sensor by soldering a resistor across it?

Thank you in advance, Kylie icon_rolleyes.gif.

Hi,

The new sensor is very delicate. It consists of extremely thin ceramic plates with a 1/100mm thick platinum coating. What do you want to solder onto that, or how were you planning to solder it?

The sensor is important for controlling the EGR rate and reducing exhaust emissions, and as a result, the instrument affects fuel consumption.

There is no alternative besides the new LLM.

I didn't know the sensor was made of ceramic, or I thought maybe it could be bypassed or replaced with a resistor.
This means that if you solder in a resistor, it only distorts the signal, but doesn't replace it?

Okay, the LMM (Lambda Measuring Module) tells the engine control unit how much diesel it can inject, and the amount of air changes drastically depending on the engine speed and boost pressure. If there were a fixed value that only worked at, say, 2000 rpm and maximum boost, you would end up producing excessive soot at lower speeds, and the engine control unit would reduce the power/injection amount at higher speeds.

Until you have a new LLM, you could try simply disconnecting it. I'm not familiar with the specific protective measures used by VAG, but other manufacturers often use theoretical air mass values, and even with Euro3 standards, they don't even turn on the diagnostic light.
