Hello.

'I signed the contract for my Passat Variant 90 HP TDI today. The registration document states the manufacturer is 0603 (VW) and the type number is 359. Can anyone tell me what the engine code is for the engine? Since the mass airflow sensor (MAF) is faulty, I wanted to know if a Pierburg MAF sensor is available and what kind of performance increase it would provide. Also, I'm interested in any tips on how to get the engine running smoothly.'

'Thank you.'

Do some research, or check out the specialized articles.

You can find the KB (likely referring to a code or marking) on the timing belt cover.
It should be something like 1Z or AHU, or something similar.

Just open the service manual.

There's a sticker inside with the license plate letters on it.

Why should a new LLM supposedly deliver "MORE" performance?
He should rather deliver the "right" performance.

If you have a cable TV subscription, you can browse the channels and see what each one is offering.

********, ***, Authal, etc.

If you had mentioned the year of manufacture, the vehicle identification number (VIN) would have been almost guessable.

"Regarding '03' in the letter, it simply means it's a 90 HP TDI Passat Variant, which you've already mentioned."

According to ADAC, it's likely a 3B model, which means it will be an AHU (or AHH).

To the best of my knowledge, AGR and ALH were not available in the 3B series.

@arne

"Model 1Z was only available with the 3A engine. According to ADAC, when checking the vehicle identification number (VIN), vehicles manufactured in February 1996 are not recognized, while those manufactured in February 1997 are."

Okay, 3B.

Regarding the LMM.

If a Pierburg component is present, a Pierburg component is available.

"If it's a Bosch part, just get a Bosch part."

What's the problem here?

"Swapping P for B is not possible."

Hello, you probably have a Bosch mass airflow sensor in there. The VW part number is 06A 906 461.

I have a 074 906 461 "available" for a 1999 AHU engine.

Spaeter 028 906 461

Depending on the Fhgst number.

I only find the 06A part number in the Sharan, Golf, Bora, and Beetle models.
However, in the Sharan, for example, the 074 filter was replaced with a different one starting from a certain production number.

Sorry, maybe Mersenne is "more up to date" than I am icon_smile.gif.

@dieselmartin: The 028 and 06A are identical; the only difference with the 028 is that the housing is longer, but internally everything is the same.
I actually thought the 074 model only went up to 1999, but of course, there were also mixed configurations, as you mentioned, depending on the chassis number.
It would actually be helpful to have the license plate code and the vehicle registration number.
