eBay Chip Tuning: Performance & Savings

Hello, fellow diesel enthusiasts,

Today, I'm posting my first topic in this forum.
Here are some details about my vehicle:

Audi 80 TDI, 90 horsepower.
MKB: 1Z without VTG.
Mileage: 165,000 km

Now, let's get to the problem:

'I want to make my TDI a bit faster, but I realized that it's quite an expensive undertaking. As an alternative, I thought I'd check out eBay. And sure enough, you can find chips starting at around 60€. But that's where the question arises: are these chips actually any good, or are they just junk? Has anyone had any experience with them?'

2. What does this have to do with the EGR valve? Does it actually make a difference if you disconnect it or completely remove it and seal the opening with a steel plate?

3. Since my turbocharger doesn't have a variable geometry turbine (VTG) yet, and is therefore relatively slow to respond, I was already considering upgrading to a turbocharger with a VTG.
Is this project even feasible? (Without having to modify the entire engine control unit right away)

1. Forget it.

2. Search function: There's a lot of information available on this topic, including a specialized article.

3. It's not worth it, it requires quite a bit of effort, but there's plenty of information available on that topic in the search results.

It should also be noted that both eBay chips and a deactivated EGR system can lead to the revocation of the car's operating license.
