Hello,

Have other owners of VW TDI vehicles experienced that the potentiometer (pot) in the 10c needs to be adjusted towards the maximum setting to achieve the desired 20% increase in power during winter conditions?

Recently, after gradually reducing the summer heat setting, the performance at my usual settings and the performance at the 10-cent setting had become so similar that I thought the switch might be defective.

I had to open the throttle almost completely to regain a noticeable 20% power, and unlike in the summer at this throttle position, there was hardly any black smoke.

'A resistor has lower resistance at lower temperatures, but that shouldn't be noticeable. The box is located in the engine compartment (somewhat protected from drafts) and isn't exposed to extremely cold temperatures.'
We are talking about an outside temperature difference of approximately 15 °C?

Strange?

Best regards,

Did you track or measure the performance differences?

Sometimes, things seem completely different than they actually are.

I've also had the feeling before that the car was pulling really hard, so I immediately went to my designated test track.
Result: slower than usual.

So, I wouldn't put any weight on estimations; only measured data tells you what's really happening.

Okay, I haven't measured it.

I completely agree with your experience regarding the subjective popometer; it probably depends on factors like circulation, increased sensitivity due to fatigue, caffeine consumption, and other things. That's why I want to install a G-meter (objective popometer) icon_wink.gif.

My observation is based on my experience during full-throttle acceleration on the highway, specifically when engaging or disengaging the overdrive. In the summer (even at 160 km/h), this resulted in a noticeable jolt. However, I didn't experience that same jolt recently when the temperature was 8°C.

Regarding temperature, the only thing that comes to mind is the quantity correction that depends on the diesel temperature.

In the summer, the diesel engine gets hotter, and "more fuel" is injected to compensate for the lower density.
The correction will, of course, be further enhanced by the 10-carat diamond.

But is it really enough to make a noticeable difference...?

That sounds quite plausible. Thank you icon_biggrin.gif.
