Hello,

'I once had the engine control unit (ECU) of my AUDI 80 1.9TDI 1Z, manufactured in May 1993, inspected, and it turned out that it had been opened before, specifically by ***. There was an *** quality seal on the ECU. I then examined the circuit boards and found '*** Tuning Part 1/2' on both EEPROMs. I wrote down the numbers on the EEPROMs, and they were identical: B57 922, U1480532, 1989. However, since my Audi isn't delivering the performance it probably should with this *** tuning, I wondered if these [EEPROMs] might somehow be deactivated or something!'
Please don't yell at me if this is complete nonsense. I don't know anything about this area!
Now, I wanted to ask you if it's even possible, and how I could activate them if that's the case? icon_rolleyes.gif

Thank you in advance! icon_biggrin.gif
I also tried using the search function, but unfortunately, I couldn't find anything specific.

Best regards,

Michael.

B57922 are 87C257 EPROMs that were specifically manufactured for Bosch.
If your car is actually running completely stock ( icon_arrow.gif stock ECU),
'Did the previous owner possibly acquire the STG (presumably a component or part) from *** due to a sale or because it didn't meet their expectations?'
have it downgraded.

Best regards,
Rudi

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Note:"
The DZR (direct-injection resonance) system doesn't work very well with the older Audi 1Z engine.
Reason: The maximum torque is only achieved at 2300 RPM in this case, not at 1900 RPM. However, the DZR (presumably a specific system or requirement) requires a TDI torque curve with the maximum torque occurring at 1900 RPM.

@Tribune.Inc
I can't imagine that the chips were supposed to be "deactivated" in any way. At most, the *** chips may have had their original serial numbers overwritten.

As a starting point or when compared to other early TDI models, the DZR is better than nothing.
Otherwise, reading out the EPROMs and comparing them to the original software would be the solution.
Safe route.

It's highly unlikely that anything is disableable (or enableable) there, as the EPROMs are only...
It has the original size (and therefore cannot be switched to a second bank).

Rudi

'But I have one more question regarding the small black box with the connection for a pressure hose... should there be one connected to it, or is it not that important? There is no opening for it on the control unit housing itself!'

Best regards,

Michael.

No - that's the sensor for the ambient air pressure.
