Does anyone know of a reputable source where I can get serious diesel engine tuning done, beyond just chip tuning (e.g., cylinder head modifications, etc.)?
What performance figures can one expect from a 110 hp TDI engine?

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thx' is short for 'thanks.' It's a casual way to express gratitude.
Werner.

Hi, what are you trying to achieve? You can rev up a TDI engine so much through the electronics that it could explode.

I have a friend who also drives an AFN and it has plenty of power. He can do that for you (including adjusting the engine electronics).
If you're interested, feel free to email me (or send me a private message).

Best regards,

... the problem with mechanical TDI tuning is that it can quickly become very expensive.
Actually, to achieve performance beyond 140-145 horsepower with the 110PS engine, you need a different turbocharger with higher boost pressure. However, to manage the peak pressures during combustion, you would then need to reduce the compression ratio, which requires different pistons.
More boost pressure also means the intercooler is too small; you need one with better cooling performance.
"You'll definitely want a different clutch. One of the 6-speed transmissions from the PD engines is recommended because they can handle higher torque."
Possibly, other fuel injectors or a fuel injection pump could be used to prevent the injection times from becoming too long, in conjunction with an appropriately tuned engine control unit.
As you can see, this quickly becomes very complex and expensive, which is why no one does it; instead, the next strongest PD TDI engine is always the better choice.

Best regards, Rainer.
