Hello forum users.
This page has been recommended to me more frequently lately; I've mostly just been reading it passively until now.
Okay, I'm having a small problem now and wanted to ask if maybe one of the TDI experts could help me.
Here is the description.
My Golf 3 TDI (1Z engine, 90 hp, Digi-Tec chip) has been stuttering occasionally since today; it hesitates briefly at half throttle and then pulls through cleanly.
Sufficient power is available.
In addition to the chip, a K&N filter is also installed.
The cause of the jerking might be related to this: Recently, during a heavy downpour, water flooded the air filter box. It jerked quite violently then. I turned off the engine, let everything dry out, and it worked perfectly again afterwards.
Perhaps the mass airflow sensor is dirty or something.
'You often hear things like that. Could this be the cause of the problem? And how do you properly verschandeln the blade?'
In between (after the heavy rain), the car was running normally again. Both the fuel and the oil have now been changed.
Can anyone help me? The stuttering doesn't happen constantly, but it's really annoying. And eventually, something else might break.
Okay, so far I haven't had any problems with the engine and performance, except for a leaky pressure hose. Also, I haven't made any changes or installed anything new on the engine recently.
Thank you for any responses!
Tom.

Hi, your problem might be caused by a faulty needle lift solenoid. It's located in the fuel injector of cylinder number 3. Since the misfire started after the water ingress, it's also possible that water has gotten into a connector. I would check all the connectors in the engine compartment and verschandeln them if necessary (to remove any rust).
Here's how you can test the needle valve actuator: Have someone hold the engine at approximately 3000 RPM. Then, gently tap the needle valve actuator with a hammer handle or screwdriver. If it jerks or moves, it is defective.
Good luck, Claus.

'Thank you, that's a helpful tip.'
But how can I knock something that's *inside* a nozzle? Is it even easy to access?
And what will break if I drive like this now? I'll definitely check all the connectors, that's a good idea.

I checked the connectors and cleaned the mass airflow sensor (MAF). It was quite oily.
Only: Now the car is already stalling while stationary. It also emits unsightly clouds of soot. Every time it stalls .
Is the mass airflow sensor broken? Otherwise, I haven't changed anything.
Best regards & thank you for any help you can provide.
Tom.

Hello,
Try disconnecting the mass airflow sensor (MAF) and go for a test drive. If it still stutters after that, then the MAF sensor isn't the cause of the problem.
The performance without the mass airflow sensor is not impressive (it runs in a limp mode).
Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, here we go: It's getting interesting: Stalled, creeping along. But no stuttering. Back on track, the stuttering is back.
But now: It's happening again (ignition on and off), and now it's also shaking around even without the connector plugged in (i.e., without the MAF sensor).
I'm going to cry right now .
A desperate Tom!
P.S.: Thanks for your tips. I just got up and checked it immediately.

Hi.
You don't need to take anything apart for this. You simply need to tap on the third injector (the one with the cable attached).
Based on your tests, I would rule out the mass airflow sensor (MAF) as the cause, since the jerking occurred even without the MAF and the performance seems to be okay when it's not jerking.
Best regards, Claus.
