Actually, I'm responsible for this problem myself, but maybe someone can help me!

I have installed a sports suspension.
Now I have the problem that when I drive over cobblestones or through potholes (even smaller irregularities), I can hear a clanging sound. The sound is similar to a loose sheet of metal that keeps clanging and rattling! The worst thing is on cobblestone, as it really bounces around!! icon_evil.gif
Furthermore, I believe that the noise is coming from the left front {RADIATOR}!!!

Now, I wanted to find the root cause. So, I looked for all the heat shields and other components. They are all securely attached to the exhaust system, they don't rattle, but the one on the center muffler is rattling slightly, but the noise actually comes from the front, and it's much louder!! Don't think that this will just keep going like this.
Then there are also the plates on the front brake discs, which are also firmly attached and have no contact with any part, so they can't be the cause either!
The suspension probably won't make such a clattery noise if any of the bearings are worn out, right?

Do you still have any spare metal parts in the engine compartment? The engine is covered on the bottom, maybe there's some metal behind it?
Is there no more turbo like in the old 2er GTD? There's just this kind of thermal insulation mat!!!

It would be really great if someone else had a suggestion icon_idea.gif, because this can really get on my nerves!!! icon_evil.gif

Hello,

Have you checked if the spring on the shock absorber housing can vibrate? To test, initially place a strip of foam or scraps between them.

Hello Markus,

I had a noise coming from the rear axle of my wife's Passat. It turned out that the brake pads had been installed without the protective backing plate. Textar-blocks with film inserted - No more clattering

'Take a look to see if there's a sticker on the back of the brake shims, maybe a mounting cover is still attached, or perhaps the sticker has hardened and the shims are coming loose from the calipers.'

Best regards,
Jürgen

Hello,

have reviewed your suggestions:
-Therefore, the springs cannot rattle against the shock absorber housing because the distance between them is >1cm! The springs are also designed for 'last wagon dimensions'! There is actually no possibility of creaking on the spring mount either!
-The brake pads also can't be the cause, as the noise also occurs during braking, and there is pressure on the pads in that situation!

Since I'm going to be replacing my rear brakes soon anyway, I'll also lift the front of the car and remove both tires and this stupid plastic tray under the engine, and then take a closer look at everything! What is this tray actually supposed to be good for under the engine? The only thing this stupid thing can do is make it impossible to see anywhere, and the car owner can't really do much maintenance themselves, or?
I had a near-death experience when I saw oil dripping out of this stupid part. However, during the last oil change at the VW workshop, oil from the filter leaked into the drain (which, by the way, they should have removed), and the foam had absorbed it all. After I did a light engine wash, the water then squeezed out the remaining oil from the foam!! I was already thinking that I had ripped the oil pan! icon_eek.gif
I'll put it in the garage just like I put my upper (plastic) engine cover in!!

Hello,

I just had another thought - the splash guards covering the brake discs could either be loose, or bent inwards and vibrating against the brake disc... ?

Just a thought, Best regards, Rainer

Hello,

I have also already checked that. I'll do it again though, as I'm planning on completely renovating the front part of the car anyway!
Nevertheless, thank you,
Hi
