Hi,

Does anyone have a truly compelling idea about what the difference is?
The control arm in the Golf platform is located between the cast component and the sheet metal linkage.
what is the reason for this, or what is the justification behind it?

It seems to have been installed either way, but what's the difference/advantage?
I can't seem to understand what it means!

Geräusche ? Vibrations?

I initially thought it was related to the motor, but there are several options that cover both.
are allowed to/can. Apparently, that's what they had there icon_wink.gif.

On the GiV platform, the "better" Audi models had different parts installed, and I remember seeing a lot of heavy-duty components under the S3 models back then.

If there's a mix of materials in the component, it's possible that a cheaper material was used only in the production series, or there might be two different suppliers. In general, a cast part in that location is likely heavier than a fabricated part, depending on the material, and therefore increases the unsprung mass.

So, would a metal handlebar be better because it's lighter?
And is aluminum/cast iron better because it offers more damping, resulting in quieter/smoother operation?

Okay, so I think that, especially when you look at a newer BMW from underneath, you can see the advantages of the aluminum cast parts. The stamped metal parts under my Golf are probably the cheapest option.

Okay, so it is with the Golf IV that all models have steel control arms, except for the top-of-the-line R32 model, which has cast control arms.

Edit: Something else I just remembered: The Golf III TDI 20 Years GTI Edition, which was limited to 400 units, also had cast control arms, and all the other body panels were the standard Golf III panels.

Apparently, cast control arms are something special at Volkswagen. At least, this was the case up to the Golf IV.

"The same was true for my Audi 80; the top models (S2, I'm not sure about the V6 models) had cast control arms, while the rest had sheet metal control arms. However, there was a single production day when all models were fitted with cast control arms (according to AKTE) icon_lol.gif"

Well, I can imagine who felt immense pressure at the factory on that day icon_smile.gif...

The Seat Leon Cupra 1M with 165 kW front-wheel drive also has cast control arms because they are more stable than steel parts.
