Hi everyone,

I need a new carburetor flange for a 1984 Jetta 1.3L. Is it worth buying replicas, or are they generally of poor or inconsistent quality?
Which manufacturers should be avoided, and which ones are recommended?

Best regards,
Brezelmann.

Hello Brezelmann,

You will probably have to resort to an accessory.

According to my records, the flange 052 129 765 B was...

completely eliminated.

(Expired on November 1, 2007, without replacement (EKZ: O))

You can use replacement parts from Lemförder in this case.

Personally, I no longer use any products from AIC – the fit and quality don't meet my expectations.

Best regards,

Michael.

To the best of my knowledge, FeBi 06546 is still available for delivery.

I've never had any problems with their flanges. Even with the 1.6/1.8 liter versions, which are known to be prone to issues.

Hello!

Look at all the things that still exist.

Based on my experience, the problem is usually the rubber component, as I've only encountered this issue with the 1.8 engines.

However, any experiences I had 20 years ago won't be helpful in this situation.
The rubber compound may have changed, and certain additives may have been banned in the meantime.
or in Brazil, they might just throw together whatever ingredients they have on hand.
Gasoline isn't what it used to be.

That's just gambling. You will see the results in 5 years.

Yes, exactly. Especially with the RP engines that tend to run hotter, I often soaked the FeBi flanges in glycerin before installation.

There was no good solution. Even the original models wouldn't last 10 years without needing to be serviced.

Hi!

Okay, I once had an RP engine in a Golf 2 as well.
It was actually a very good, durable, and reliable engine.

But I also replaced those flanges several times.
But it wasn't bad, it happened very quickly.

Thank you for your active participation!

What do you think about Volkswagen Classic Parts? It costs about twice as much, but if it lasts longer and fits better, that could still be an option...

The question is always the production date. They also become porous from being left out in the open.

Does VW Classic have anything to say about this? Is it old new stock or are they still producing it? If it's still being produced, it's very likely that it's from FeBi.

They're definitely buying it somewhere... probably in China.

Can I also place orders directly through the open market?

Hello!

Fifteen years ago, when I still owned my own workshop,
I used to always order spare parts for older cars from a dealer located near Bremen. They specialized in VW, Audi, and other similar brands.

Back then, it was partly still done with a catalog and price list, but later it moved online.
The country of origin was always indicated in the classic paper price list.

A lot came from Brazil.
The original VW part numbers were first ground off, and later they were simply overstamped with "X"s.

But rubber parts have always been a problem; I was never really satisfied with them.

I also can't imagine that there are multiple manufacturers in the world independently producing such rare, old, and exotic flanges.
