Hello,

Here's the translation:

Last November, I had an accident with my Golf. Someone apparently damaged the left side of my car... icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif

Well, he paid for everything. In the accident, my side airbag deployed.

So far, I haven't purchased any new airbags, but I did buy a control unit for one from E***.
Okay, here's my question: Can I install and connect this new "used" airbag control unit without having the airbag installed? And does the lateral acceleration sensor also need to be replaced?

To my knowledge, airbag deployment is permanently stored in the control unit, which is why it needs to be replaced. Will the error code from a previously deployed airbag also be "permanently" stored in my new control unit?

Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Achim

The sensor is likely located within the control unit itself.
It should be sufficient to replace the airbag module along with its initiator.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Note:'

'On eBay, used engine control units (ECUs) are very commonly sold.'
which have been reset, meaning control units that have already triggered once.

Personally, I wouldn't trust this one, no matter what the seller said.

Hello,

You can certainly install the new control unit yourself. However, an error will be stored and displayed because the side airbag is not connected. The side airbag sensor must also be replaced. Once you have connected the side airbag (and sensor), the error can be cleared using a diagnostic tool.

If you're still interested in buying the side airbags: I have two front seats with side airbags that I removed and have lying around (I replaced them with Recaros). If you're interested, please send me a private message. Otherwise, they will soon be available on the largest online auction platform.

Regards,
Sure.

After Theresia's simultaneous response initially caused some temporary uncertainty, I double-checked: Contrary to what Theresia stated, the side impact crash sensor is not included in the control unit (ECU). Therefore, I still recommend replacing it.

The side impact crash sensor is - contrary to Theresia's statement - not included in the control unit (ECU).

Perhaps my word choice was a bit unclear; it should better say control unit AND ignition coil.

The crash sensor (side airbag) is located in the Volkswagen Golf 3 under the carpet (under the corresponding seat).

Anyway, there are people who are capable of triggering airbag deployments.
which contains a mechanically operating acceleration sensor.
reset it - after that, no one can really guarantee what will happen when things get heated.

Impact sensors should ALWAYS be replaced, regardless of the principle they operate on!

If a sensor has been accelerated beyond its trigger threshold, it may have sustained mechanical damage. Consequently, reliable operation can no longer be guaranteed!
If the sensor is integrated into the control unit, then the entire unit needs to be replaced!

Sure, here's the translation:

'CU' is an abbreviation for 'see you.' It can be used in a variety of contexts, such as:

* In text messages or emails to say goodbye.
* At the end of a phone call or video chat.
* When leaving a meeting or event.
* As a casual way to say hello when arriving somewhere.

'CU' is often used by people who are close friends or family members, but it can also be used in more formal settings.

Hi there,

dankeschön für die Antworten. Den Sensor für Querbeschleunigung unterm Sitz hätte ich eh getauscht, denn sonst macht der airbag doch mal nix wenn man ihn braucht. SicShe is definitely safe!
