Passat Front Axle Noise: Causes & Fixes

'For weeks, I've been hearing these noises, whether when stationary while turning or while driving when the front suspension compresses. I couldn't pinpoint the exact source of the noise, even after carefully listening with a 'stethoscope.' The lower control arms and the shock absorber remained as possible sources. This weekend, I checked the relevant control arms individually and discovered that the ball joint on the front lower control arm, the one that supports the shock absorber, had dried out. it was fine.
The question is, how long will it last...? Usually, the fat filling in the rubber caps doesn't disappear.
If that's the case, then the way for water and debris to enter the joint is also open, meaning it will eventually need to be replaced.

The steering rack of the Passat and similar models from the VAG group is a well-known and expensive problem... I know what I'm talking about .

But a solution was found two years ago... there's a parts kit available with all the handlebars and screws, plus all the small bits and pieces, for a reasonable price of 850 euros from the dealer.

But that's not all; kind-hearted engineers have even revised some parts, for example, the support struts... now, instead of having a ball joint, they have a rubber-metal bearing and a through-bolt!

Basically good... unfortunately, the drilling axis was misaligned, and the bushing is severely stressed in its normal state.

So, get used to the fact that you'll have to invest a lot of time and money into maintaining your 3B car, because you'll never truly get it running perfectly quietly...
