Tapping noises from the front axle.
Cause:
The fracture or loss of the stabilizer bar clamp on the front axle causes rattling noises from the stabilizer bar.
Solution:
The retrofit solution includes two reinforcement plates, screws, and two 4mm stabilizer bar brackets. The reinforcement plates strengthen the attachment of the stabilizer bar brackets to the metal tabs on the front axle housing.
Workflow:
Remove the old stabilizer brackets.
Loosen the front mounting bolt of the steering knuckle on the corresponding side of the axle, and use a transmission jack to support the front wheel until the loosened bolt can be easily removed.
Do not change the position of the gear lever linkage, as this position is required for installing the new screws.
The front axle housing must be cleaned of any dirt or wax buildup in the areas where the reinforcement comes into contact with it.
The left/right reinforcement must be inserted under the corresponding metal tab/metal contour without any bending, and it must be secured with an M8 socket head cap screw. The reinforcement must be in contact with the front axle housing. Any gaps are not permitted.
The reinforcement cannot be installed; instead, widen the axle body using a tire lever.
Install the new strut mount bolt with washer and reinforcement on the front axle housing and tighten it.
Mount the 4 mm stabilizer bracket and tighten the M8 set screw to 30 Nm.
Tighten the control arm bolt to 160 Nm while the suspension is compressed, ensuring the vehicle is resting on its wheels.
