The AJM is a 2002 model, and based on the "C" marking, my production date (ASZ) is 07/2002. It definitely has an "R" marking.
Regarding the AJM part, something seems strange. It looks like the original letter was removed and a "C" was later added. The "new" used replacement head I have is also marked with a "C". If it's helpful, both of these (the AJMs) have PDE numbers that end in "F".
Now the question is what's different about D, and for goodness sake, what exactly is R?

, do you have the Golf that was produced before or after mine?

What letter does it have? I'm kind of curious now. It's located on the far left side of the cylinder head; just lift the plastic and move the sound insulation slightly to the side.
Okay, one more thing: I knew quite early on that my vehicle doesn't have a GSH (presumably a specific type of system). Also, my KGE (likely an engine component) is not heated. According to my documentation, all PD models should have this feature. I'm now considering retrofitting the heating element from the "broken" AJM engine... although why would I even do that?
I wasn't there when the belt broke. I don't even know the owner. So, I would have to ask, but I think it doesn't really matter much because the valve of the first cylinder absorbed most of the energy. From there, the damage will always be "less severe."
