I will check the cylinder head bolts this week, and if necessary, tighten them if it really turns out to be the cause...

This is just a temporary fix and not a repair!

I completely agree. If the cylinder head gasket is leaking, it should be repaired as quickly as possible, rather than experimenting with things that won't help and will ultimately cause more damage and expense.

Since my car had already experienced a head gasket/cylinder head damage at 63,000 km under the previous owner (covered by warranty from VAG), and the second head gasket also only lasted 76,000 km, I did some investigating into the cause back then.

During the process, I also checked to ensure that the head was still securely fastened and therefore opted for ARL screws to reduce vibration-induced seal gaps in the long term.

See the technical article by ElringKlinger regarding the relationship between sealing gap oscillation and clamping force: http://www.ekmt.de/fachartikel/0101_mtz.html

hello

Don't come complaining later if things get completely out of control, okay?

I know that I am acting on my own responsibility with this experiment icon_confused.gif.

If the ZKD (crankshaft seal) is leaking, repair it as soon as possible and don't experiment for a long time.

Has anyone of you ever replaced the timing belt yourself on a Porsche Diesel icon_redface.gif?

Best regards.

Sure, basically it works the same way as other diesel engines. You should probably get a repair manual before you start.

To prepare for lapping the cylinder head, it must be completely disassembled. Absolute cleanliness is essential. It's best to have a thorough engine cleaning done beforehand (without the engine cover).

However, if you do not possess complete professional knowledge and skills,
If I were you, I would stay away from that.

hello

However, if you do not possess complete professional knowledge and skills,
If I were in your shoes, I would stay away from that.

I have some specialized knowledge regarding diesel engines - a colleague of mine covers the entire spectrum. icon_biggrin.gif

Together, we will definitely manage the ZKD exchange with a proper guide.

By the way, I reinstalled the thermostat yesterday because it's really awful without one.

Thank you for the insightful discussion so far – this is truly the best forum around.

Best regards.
