As far as I know, the problem isn't with the engine block itself, but with the piston sleeves.
But he's really not as bad as his reputation on the forums suggests.
My ex-girlfriend's car had about 250,000 kilometers and ran like new.
He also gave him some 10W60 oil... and not that watered-down PD stuff.
And the oil was changed every 8-10 thousand kilometers.

Yep, that's probably the biggest weakness of the AJM.
Nevertheless, the lower part (engine block) of the 130/150 hp version has better prerequisites for a long lifespan. 3B5 AJM

i.e., is the bushing material too weak? And as a result, is it causing piston seizure?
Is this only the case with the AJM engine, or do the 100 hp PD engines have the same cylinder liners?
Regards,
Paul.

Okay, I think you meant the connecting rod bearings, specifically the upper bearing of the connecting rod (connecting rod eye). 3B5 AJM

I believe the list of AJM diseases is minimally longer!
However, I also have some vehicles in my care that have already reached 250,000 km despite experiencing some issues.

Sorry, I seem to have misread something. I think it refers to the connecting rod bearings, specifically the upper bearing of the connecting rod (connecting rod eye).
Hold on a second. Please explain exactly what the problem is. I don't want us to misunderstand each other. I was referring to the cylinder walls – specifically, the sleeves that are pressed into the engine block where the pistons move.
'If it's just the bearings, I could insert some from Arl before installation. It's not a big deal if they fit directly.'

Cartridges pressed into the block?
Only the TDI Simson has something like that...
Okay, putting the jokes aside - the drilling is directly within the block, so there are no blind spots.
I highly doubt that the ARL storage solutions are compatible, and I believe they are not!

Yes, yes, of course I meant the connecting rod bearings, or rather, the connecting rod bores.
Piston liners... Mercedes had eliminated them in diesel engines at the beginning of the 1990s .
But I don't believe the TDIs ever had that feature.

I started disassembling the donor today.
The car strangely doesn't have glow plug heating.
and the car also has a pre-lift pump in the fuel tank.
Has anyone ever seen a power distribution unit (PDU) without a pump in the tank? If so, how do they extract diesel from the tank for the PDUs?
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Hello.'

All the PD models have an electric pre-charge pump – you can hear it when you turn on the ignition!
There's also a mechanical tandem pump located on the cylinder head.

Yes, that's what I always thought too. But recently, I read somewhere in a forum that only ASZ/ARL models have a pump in the fuel tank.

Then please post a link to it – like myfisch, I simply believe it's wrong. Gruß Ulf

AFAIK, the automatic models of the G IV ASZ also don't have them. Gruß

I'm currently dismantling a Bora AJM. It was manufactured in January 2001 and has a 6-speed manual transmission, and it doesn't have glow plug preheating.

I just don't understand why it has to be an AJM; after all, even with tuning, it doesn't produce more power than an ALH .

You don't always have to focus solely on performance. That's secondary for me. I don't plan on tuning the AJM engine. I'll just drive it until it breaks down, or until I find a more affordable ASZ or ARL engine.
'I'm going to modify it because the VP TDI engine is really annoying with its jerky behavior when coasting. I got the Bora very cheaply with an AJM engine, so it will definitely be an AJM.'
