Hi,

Of course, I didn't completely disconnect the wires.
I tried to listen to the engine (using a screwdriver), but I couldn't hear anything clear from the top. In general, the noise coming from the side, in front of the engine (rear-mounted engine), is much louder than when you're listening from behind, above the engine.

The injectors are probably not in great shape either, and there might be two other related issues. When starting after a long period (overnight), there's initially a strong cloud of diesel exhaust. After a short stop with a warm engine, it sometimes only starts after a very rough cranking sound.

Regarding the oil again, I briefly (for 10 minutes) drove at full throttle on Saturday. While facing a very strong headwind (from a bus with a high roof!), I reached 135 km/h at approximately 115°C. That's 5 km/h less than the maximum speed I usually achieve, and it was about 5°C warmer than usual. To me, this didn't seem "unusual."
The oil pressure was also normal.

I would also do it the way Bertil suggests, as the nozzles are quite quick to reattach (make sure you have the gaskets ready), and you might feel a bit more confident then. Otherwise, try rolling the bike down a really long hill and listen for any changes.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Mogen Dieter' translates to 'May Dieter' or 'Wishing Dieter well.'

I also own a T3 with an AFN engine. For several thousand kilometers, I've occasionally experienced a similar/identical noise to what you're describing. Sometimes it's louder, sometimes quieter, often it disappears completely, regardless of whether the engine is warm or cold.
'The injectors are relatively new (approximately 20,000 km). The engine has about 120,000 km on it. The maximum oil temperature is 110°C, measured in the oil pan.'
Previously, a car with 250,000 km on the odometer had the same noise. In that case, I replaced the hydraulic lifters, and the noise disappeared.

It sometimes occurs during cold starts, but usually disappears after about 5-10 seconds once the oil pressure builds up. However, sometimes the noise persists even after a cold start.

I suspect (or hope...) that it's again a hydraulic lifter on an intake valve, as I still hear a corresponding dull 'thumping' sound at the same time from the area of the intercooler/hose.
The noise is also louder for me when I stand next to the vehicle.

'This weekend, I'm going to the Czech Republic with our racing club. When I get back (hopefully without any issues), I'm definitely going to replace all the hydraulic components. I should mention that I'm using a specific type of oil, and it's changed every 7,000 km. It's hard to say for sure, but maybe the oil I'm using is causing the problem. I'll know more next week.'

Rolf.

Hi,

Just for your information.

The engine managed to make it 300 kilometers to the workshop (where it was supposed to go anyway for other reasons).
But he still gave it a try. The hydrants and nozzles were replaced, but the clicking sound persists.
Now he's leaving.
There's a new hull, and at least that way I'll have an engine with a known mileage.
