'I roughly aligned the timing belt using the crankshaft locking pin and then fine-tuned it using the inspection hole method, checking it three times in the direction of the engine. This resulted in an approximate shift of 1-2 mm within the elongated holes of the timing belt tensioner, compared to the position with the crankshaft locked.'
That is why I left it as it was, because the engine, which I had already 'fine-tuned' before replacing the timing belt, felt noticeably smoother!
The only thing I could observe was the somewhat loose timing belt tension; the indicator on the tensioner roller was already outside of its range! I've now adjusted the indicator to be at the end of the range, and it's noticeably tighter. I will keep an eye on this, at least checking it within the next 50,000 km.
After another 7,000 kilometers, I can say that it's running exactly as before, and the top speed is still easily achieved.
My reference point is the on-board computer display showing 0.8 - 0.9 liters per hour at idle. The fuel consumption has decreased by 0.3 liters compared to before, and I'm averaging 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers (Bora Variant ASZ). That should be okay considering a weighted curb weight of 1520 kg!
The maximum speed is easily achieved.
But since then, AGR has also been involved!
