...there's one more thing I need to add:

I believe the vibration damper is not intended to protect the generator, but rather to improve running smoothness by using targeted imbalances (hydraulic??? ) in the damper and the flywheel. icon_confused.gif icon_confused.gif

Best regards, Christian.

So, if I remember correctly, there are no springs at all in the damper. The damping is only made possible by the material -> so it's a solid piece icon_confused.gif icon_confused.gif

Hi Christian,

Anyway: The inner part and the pulley(s) should not be able to slide or rotate loosely against each other, because if they do, I think it's definitely broken.

I've now checked the gear; I mean, I checked the inner part (where the ribbed belt is) and the outer part (which is for the timing belt?).
The two parts can be shifted relative to each other by approximately 5 mm.
Are they not securely fastened?
I'm starting to feel a little embarrassed by my lack of knowledge. icon_mad.gif

Hi peak,

It's okay, nobody is born knowing everything icon_exclaim.gif.

Please try to explain again exactly what you have turned against each other icon_question.gif }. There is the crankshaft pulley where the timing belt sits (approx. 5cm diameter -> there is a round protrusion between two threaded holes -> condition?), on which the vibration damper is mounted, which drives the ribbed belt, and on top of that, a V-belt pulley for the power steering.

There is a hole in the vibration damper between two screw holes, and inside this hole sits a protrusion from the crankshaft gear (which appears to be damaged or worn).

Best regards, Christian.

It's slowly starting to take shape with my project/thing *g*.

The only thing that seems to be damaged is the crankshaft pulley where the large bolt goes through, likely at the point where it sits on the shaft. However, I don't believe the impressions of the teeth on the pulley indicate any twisting or deformation.
However, the four smaller mounting screws were not included, and I can't find any other damaged holes or protrusions anywhere else.
Inside the large disc, there's another ring that is approximately 1.5 cm wide, and it has a rubber lip about 4 mm wide on its outer edge. Could there possibly be some kind of centrifugal weights or similar components inside?
Regarding the photos, it might take a little longer to get them, so I suggest you come and see for yourself in person. icon_biggrin.gif
Just a little joke aside, I'll try to take some pictures and post them here in the forum as soon as possible.

Here's my question again: How can I avoid this in the future? How can I check for it?

Greetings and thanks again to everyone!

Hi peak,

That sounds more like a problem with the central bolt on the crankshaft pulley! Where was the timing belt replaced before? In some bad workshops, the central bolt is loosened, and the entire unit (damper, crankshaft pulley, and pulley) is removed. If the old screw is reinstalled and not tightened properly (ideally to 90 Nm + 90 degrees), then the damage is almost guaranteed icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif.

Best regards, Christian.

I had the timing belt replaced during the 90,000 km service at a Seat dealership. Of course, I relied on their workmanship, but after a rear-end repair that involved some issues, I've been having the other regular maintenance services (without the timing belt replacement) done at an independent garage.
Maybe he should have realized that already? I have no idea.
Unfortunately, I have limited opportunities to work on the car myself these days, which is why I don't really know much about it.
At least as far as the engine is concerned.
Where do you attach the ignition pistol here? icon_lol.gif icon_wink.gif
Well, I guess I'll have to make more of an effort in the future to keep a closer eye on the workshops.

Should I have the fittings replaced preventatively in the future?
Or can I check it like this?

If the old screw is installed and not tightened to the correct torque (e.g., 90 Nm + 90 degrees), then damage is inevitable.

Based on that, I assume this is a stretch bolt and it needs to be replaced every time.

Sure, I will translate the text from German to English. Please provide the text you would like me to translate.

Here's some additional information about the crankshaft pulley:
