Combined CAT-DPF systems are quite common, as far as I can tell. However, the problem is the pre-catalytic converter that many newer vehicles have. This also needs to be replaced (really?) after over 80,000 km, which drives up the cost of the conversion.

Sometimes, catalytic converters are replaced even before the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is installed.
Then you don't need to buy another one, because it will then have less than 80,000 km icon_wink.gif.

Hello,

I'm also getting back in touch... although I still want to postpone the "DPF" topic until next fall, in case there are any changes to the political plans.

It's still strange that, according to the system, there's supposedly a product from "Mangold" that's compatible with my car, but it can't be found using the configurator on the Mangold website itself, and it only appears in a PDF document. According to the workshop that replaced the timing belt last week, there's nothing available there except for a notification.

Seat claims to have a DPF, but the question then arises as to where it comes from, because, in my opinion, these aftermarket DPFs are not from VAG themselves, but are also purchased from other suppliers. Does anyone know more about this, or can someone check this in the appropriate place? The HSN/TSN numbers are 7593/470.

We actually discussed this exact topic about 18 months ago, and even then, two filters were found, but both mysteriously disappeared...

Best regards,

Jan.

The Mangold Kat 858005 you're referring to has a yellow dot in the aftermarket catalogs like Tecdoc, which means it's currently not available for delivery. You'll only get more specific information by calling Mangold directly. The number is 08824 92980.

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

Motivated by the discussions about the €330 that can be offset by the maximum vehicle tax due by December 31, 2009, I finally decided to install a DPF on my old AFN vehicle.
I actually wanted to wait until the very end (in Stuttgart, you can still drive with a red sticker until 2012) and then buy it. But thanks to the vigilant diesel mechanics, I was almost able to get it for €330.
The question of whether an AS (aftermarket system, i.e., with a new catalytic converter) or a ZS (add-on system) is the right choice has been resolved by the price (but not in the way we expected)...
BTW, the CAT was only 3 years old, but a roaring noise in the 1800 RPM range suggested a potentially cracked flex pipe.
'Market research' (as my wife always jokingly claims) has revealed some surprising findings (all prices include VAT):

In the 'Bucht' (likely referring to an online marketplace), the price range for ZS (HJS/Twin-Tec) parts is approximately €590 to €640.
At W&M (with a very good discount rate): €640 for the HJS-ZS (made to order) and €780 for the Twin-Tec AS (in stock).
At 'Freundlichen' icon_smile.gif: First, 680 € for the Oberland AS (800 € including installation) and, after a short negotiation, 630 € (without installation). When I picked up the part, there was another 10% discount (I had a customer number set up years ago...). That means 566 € for a replacement system!!! icon_idea.gif
The part is available as a VAG replacement part in stock and was ready for pickup the next day. The part number ZDK 078 058 corresponds to Oberland-Mangold 858 020.

I have not yet experienced that something is icon_smile.gif cheaper than in the open market.

And: The car is running much quieter now. The rumbling noise is gone. The flexible pipe was already cracked.

Merry Christmas (now with yellow sticker).

Okay, so what? Is it actually the case, as I suspected earlier, that you can only get a maximum of 330 euros waived from the tax that was due until December 31, 2009? And consequently, if you install it on December 30, 2009, you essentially get nothing waived?

We had mentioned this earlier and dismissed it as a myth because it's extremely unfair and wasn't actually communicated in that way.

Best regards,

Jan.

Here's how I understand it: If you install it by December 31, 2009, you will receive a credit of 330 euros, which will be offset against your future taxes. This is even if the installation date is December 31, 2009.

I can also call a representative from Twin Tec, HJS, or Eberspächer in January and inquire again to get a firm answer.

I'm going to paste my private message here that I sent to Jan a while ago (for clarification!).

According to § 3c paragraph 1 of the Motor Vehicle Tax Act, the '... possession of passenger cars with particularly low particulate emissions, equipped with a diesel engine,' is temporarily exempt from tax if the vehicle '... is retrofitted with technical improvements between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2009, such that it...'
'The tax exemption applies only to passenger cars that were first registered before December 31, 2006. It begins on the day that the registration authority determines that the requirements for the exemption have been met. The tax exemption ends when the tax savings, based on the applicable tax rate according to § 9, paragraph 1, number 2, reach the amount of 330 euros. The tax exemption is granted only once for each vehicle.'

That means you will receive a tax exemption of €330.00 if you 'technically improve' your vehicle.
Of course, you will no longer be eligible for any tax benefits if you sell the car beforehand. In this case, the 'remaining' tax benefits will be transferred to the buyer.

Hello,

The text in question, like all texts on the subject, can, in my opinion, be interpreted in both directions.

This particular statement by "Oldewurtel" gave me food for thought.

But thanks to the vigilant diesel mechanics, I was still able to salvage almost all of the €330.

@Oldewurtel:

Is this based on a tax assessment, a statement from the registration authority, or simply an interpretation of the text? Is there any official document that specifies a number *less than* 330 for your specific car?

Best regards,

Jan.

I think my previous post should have covered everything.

If the upgrade is completed before December 31, 2009, you can receive a maximum subsidy of €330.00 (the maximum amount is only applicable because, if you sell beforehand, the subsidy is lost for the seller).

If you have any further doubts, I suggest calling the vehicle tax office of the respective registration district (www.finanzamt.de) and inquiring there. There are people working there who have no interest in providing incorrect information icon_wink.gif.

Hi,

To bring everything to a conclusion (D. is fortunately right!).

Today, I received the tax assessment notice, considering my vehicle modifications.

The car is exempt from taxes for the period from January 27, 2009, to March 13, 2010, which is a total of 1 year and 45 days. With a tax rate of 15.44 euros per 100 cubic centimeters and an engine displacement of 1.9 liters, this amounts to exactly 330 euros.

Therefore, there is no malicious interpretation of the regulation, and there is no deadline of December 31st; you simply need to install the filter before that date.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hello Jan,

It was my interpretation of the statements made here in the forum!

I personally had negative experiences in the 'distant' past regarding the repayment of funds received from the government (student loans).
Therefore, despite my generally optimistic nature icon_lol.gif, I am always skeptical when the tax office promises a waiver or refund during times of empty coffers icon_idea.gif.

I also received the full tax exemption of 330 euros, and starting from the installation date, I received a refund for the portion of the tax that was recently paid.

I was therefore wrong with my interpretation. Ashes to my head icon_confused.gif.

Regarding the PMS, I can only say: Excellent!!! So far, there hasn't been any noticeable increase in fuel consumption, and the performance hasn't noticeably suffered.
In the dark, I can see significantly less smoke in the rearview mirror; so, this thing really does make a difference.

Best regards,
K. Oldewurtel
