Conversely, this is a better approach. Mineral oils, with their diverse composition that can include long, straight chains or even double bonds, are less resistant to aging.
For LL (Long-Life) applications, Group 3+ oils are suitable as they offer a better and more consistent structure. The difference between these oils and PAO (Polyalphaolefin) is becoming increasingly smaller.

Hey Michael (the person who started this thread),

What was the cost of the oil analysis, and where did you have it done?
get it done?

Regards,
Arne.

The diverse composition of the mineral oil makes a high-quality alloy less necessary. The corresponding intermediate products of the aging process, which are unavoidable, decompose and form reaction products with lower or higher viscosity, along with the introduction of foreign substances (e.g., soot, additives). This decomposition process is inevitable.
Generally, the base oil, whether mineral or synthetic, defines the characteristics of the oil, as it makes up to 85% of its composition. The increasing aging process caused by corrosion, shearing, etc., significantly changes the lubricant's properties. HCS (High-Carbon Synthetic) oils are also subject to this process, although the known wear patterns typically associated with mineral oils may not apply here. HCS oils are considerably more resistant to aging because they are less reactive than mineral oils. Therefore, using a high-quality additive is worthwhile for creating, for example, long-life lubricants. However, there is no guarantee of permanent resistance to aging.

"No one has ever said that HC or PAO are permanently resistant to aging. Only someone who believes they never have to change the oil again because of a bypass filter would think that."

My comment was related to the topic of LL analysis and therefore referred to the oil being used. Sorry, that won't happen again anytime soon.

To determine the aging of the oil, you need to know the TBN (Total Base Number) value. You also need to know the initial TBN value of the fresh oil. In the past, diesel engines could often last for 50,000 km. Since the introduction of low-sulfur oils, this has decreased to only 30,000 km.

It would be interesting to know how high the diesel content would be in another diesel car.

It's only since the biodiesel content reached up to 7% that it's been recommended to replace parts sooner rather than later... It's becoming increasingly difficult to remove biodiesel from engine oil.

Oil dilution that reduces the lubricating properties of engine oil.
Everyone should know for themselves when to change their oil! It's probably a good idea to do it after 20 or 25,000 km.

Hi there,

That's my guess. Since the increase in the biodiesel content, my oil level has been continuously rising (and there is no water in the oil).
I'm not going to change the oil intervals anymore. The car (Golf III, 1Z) has 370,000 kilometers on it, and I achieved that with oil costing 12 euros for 5 liters, changing it twice a year, which means every 15-20,000 kilometers.

Sure, here's the translation:

"Briefly, here's my information:"

(1) Aral Ultimate does not contain biodiesel (they can count the GTL as a bio component).
http://www.aral.de/aral/iframe.do?categoryId=9035278&contentId=7065417

(2) Castrol 50700 5W30 is a synthetic oil.
I'm only finding images online that label it as "fully synthetic."

I drive both.

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Something like a federal agency even suggested, due to the biodiesel content, that an early change might be necessary... This isn't just theory with biodiesel; it's a fact. You don't always know how much biodiesel is actually in the fuel when you fill up.

Regarding biofuels... I believe gas stations are only required to sell a certain amount of biofuel. If they don't meet that quota, they have to pay a penalty tax.
That's why the deviations can be up to 7%, and that's precisely how Ultimate Biodiesel can be kept free of biodiesel!!! GTL uses Shell products, and it doesn't do anything for me; I'll never use it again... I'm convinced by Ultimate. I've been using it occasionally in the winter... Recently, I filled up with Ultimate twice, and I'm really convinced that the engine is quieter and more responsive. That biofuel stuff really makes the engine sluggish...

Regarding the oil... well, almost 99% of it is hydrocarbon-based (HC) oil. In the past, they used to advertise that HC oil was a higher quality product, better than "low viscosity" oils, etc. Nowadays, you often just see the word "synthetic" on the label. Given the amount of oil required for the 507.00 specification, it's almost exclusively HC oil.

Hi,

Quote:
LL oils are actually of a higher quality, or at least that's what their prices would suggest.

No way! Lemon butterflies don't even eat lemons! The HC oils are significantly cheaper to produce, including the additive package, compared to "fully synthetic" oils.
The "HC wave" is purely about maximizing profit.

@Dieselmartin: Could you please link to an image that labels Castrol as "fully synthetic"?

Regarding modern HC oils compared to older PAOs: There are some interesting images from an oil manufacturer that clearly show (and state) that HC oils leave more deposits than PAOs. And this isn't presented as a comparison of their excellent proprietary product versus a competitor's product, but rather as an internal company comparison. Shortly after, there's a note stating that this difference and the reformulation of a PAO should NOT be communicated to customers. By "customer," they mean wholesalers and OEMs, not the average consumer. In my opinion, this reveals a lot.

Here's a link to what is being advertised as "full synth," but in reality, it's likely not full synth at all (probably only 0.1% of the time is it actually full synth).
"These are just some marketing gimmicks. It's as if they're saying the consumer wants to be fooled..." "Exclusive, fully synthetic high-performance engine oil for modern engines of the Volkswagen Group."

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/genericarticle.do?categoryId=9032945&contentId=7036842

Many oil manufacturers have incorrect labels.
