The shift indicator actually depends on the MSG-SW status. However, it's only really useful for detecting engine over-revving, as it then recommends using lower gears. Otherwise, you can ignore it; it indicates that at 1,300/min in 5th gear while going slightly uphill, you should shift to 6th
