Well, you're lucky to have gotten away with that, considering the kW issue!
Did the Bosch representative also reveal the price for the new pump, and other details? I'd be interested to know!
'Are you going to let the ZR participate as well? That would make sense, right?'

I'm really glad about that too... Hopefully .
So, the pump itself, including the replacement, should cost around 1000 euros.
The pump itself costs 750 euros.
The timing belt will be replaced at the same time. I specifically called to confirm. But they said that when replacing the water pump, the old timing belt won't be reinstalled (since it's already been running for 40,000 km).

Okay, so it's still possible! (I have in mind a pump price of over 1000 euros from VW for a replacement.) Although 1000 euros is also quite a hit to the wallet! Hopefully, it will bring the desired result!

That makes me a little suspicious . My Passat was first registered in 02/94. The 1Z engine wasn't produced for much longer, was it? |
Every dealer tells a different story about this problem. It's best to consult with a motor specialist (I have a vague recollection that 80% of all engine damage is due to the crankshaft bolt). ____________

Status update on my car:
The new pump is installed. I just called and said that I won't pick up the car until tomorrow because I won't be able to make it today.
Funny: The Bosch guy asked me what those 2 extra cables were connected to on my pump...?
(he meant 10C tuning)
Then I asked what that was good for.
He just said I should disconnect that again, so that the new pump doesn't get damaged... (I think it's probably because of the warranty, or maybe it's just not allowed).
What do you think, did he really not know what it's for, or did he just want to know if I knew?
Well, I'm curious to see what tomorrow brings.
I will then report the final result to you (hopefully only good ).

Okay, the new pump has been installed since Saturday.
Costing with a new 'timing belt kit' from Bosch and complete installation: 1194 EURO .
The stuttering is gone (which was to be expected).
The car starts perfectly (without white smoke).
I haven't tested version 10c yet (it's not that important anyway).
However, I once spoke with a Bosch technician, and he mentioned that one of the cylinders sounded strange. It's possible that a valve (lifter) is damaged, which could also be causing a loss of power.
Okay, here are my questions for you: Can I just remove the valve cover and take a look? Or can you even see anything under there?
There is nothing unusual to observe in the idle speed control values. The highest value is 0.4...

Hmm, that sounds a bit far-fetched to me... Do you hear any clicking sounds when the engine is running? A faulty lifter can be identified by clicking noises that don't disappear when the engine is warm. Of course, it's possible that a valve isn't closing properly and no clicking is occurring (which I find hard to imagine). Perhaps the valve seat is worn (but that's unlikely with this mileage). In any case, if that were the case, the idle speed control would likely be noticeably affected.

Warm up the engine and let it run at a high RPM so that the valve lifters are properly filled with oil. Then, immediately remove the cover and use a wooden wedge to push the valve lifters downwards (the relevant camshaft lobe must be at the top). The wear limit is 0.1mm, meaning there should be no noticeable play... but make sure to let the engine run properly beforehand, otherwise, all the lifters will have play. ____________

The Bosch technician described the noise as 'bubbling.' However, I didn't really notice that. My engine isn't exactly quiet anyway. The noise from the ribbed belt already sets the tone. Then, I modified my air filter box (there was a 'horn' inside, which probably serves for noise reduction). Now I have a deep rumble, which isn't too bad, though.
But I hear nothing about Blubbern .
I'll connect the laptop again this afternoon and check the idle speed values.

Oh noooooo .
Well, I'm not really stressing about it. Yesterday, I replaced the mass airflow sensor (MAF) with a diode again. The car has never really had excessive power, not since I've owned it...
Yesterday, I took the valve cover off, but I was too lazy to try adjusting the valve lifters. On the ones where it was possible (where there weren't any camshaft lobes pressing down), I couldn't feel any play.
I'll just ignore that bubbling sound (I've never actually heard it myself).
The water, oil, and diesel consumption are actually quite good. For now, I'm done with any further investments. I'm just going to drive the car for a few kilometers first.
Thank you both very much for your tips!
