The connectors are actually placed inside the housing in a way that they are not energized.

I've experienced that before too; the issue with the ABS while steering was caused by water in the sensor connector!

Resolution regarding ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).
It never occurred to me before, but it only happens right after starting the car, when I'm reversing out of the driveway and immediately apply the brakes.
According to Volkswagen's documentation, the ABS enters a self-test mode a few seconds after starting the engine.
That's exactly where it happens: when I pull out of my driveway and brake just before reaching the road.
