The operating number (WSC), the importer's number, and the device number are purely informative labels indicating who modified what with which device.

You can set your own workshop data in the VCDS program settings.
The data will NOT be checked for plausibility. Individuals might therefore get the idea to use existing car scans.

If I confirm the values provided by VCDS (12345/123/12345) with "OK," it crashes and displays an error message. The message roughly translates to: "Incorrect importer blabla number..."

VCDS homepage, tabs at the top right, where you can enter WSC, etc. - this has also been explained specifically for you before.

And since the above suggestion seems too difficult:
Do you accept WSC 00020 790 00000 or WSC 00020 999 00000 or WSC 40517 000 1048576 or ...?
All WSC codes from YOUR vehicle scan!

Okay, I understand. I just wanted to know why the code suggested by VCDS isn't accepted, especially since there's supposedly no validation taking place.

This is because VCDS takes the existing values if no information is provided, and if "00000" is present, it is not valid for coding.
