You can activate or deactivate the start-stop function in your wife's CFFB vehicle through the long coding in the engine control unit (control unit address 01).
Edit: Apparently, it also involves adjustments in the engine control unit and a long coding process from the body control module (control unit address 09).

I think a memory function would be useful, but it doesn't seem to be working in my case.

The central component for the start-stop function is likely the body control module (BCM) in all models (module 9). The start/stop button and the sensors for various parameters are probably connected to this module in all models.
For the A4 8K, the procedure is clear ( https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=25686 ), and the others should be similar.
A coding service in Germany offers recoding for Golf 7 and Superb 3V models, so it's possible. The lack of detailed information is simply a business practice. Also, there is currently a lack of detailed knowledge available.
My suggestion, in addition to trying things out at your own risk, is to post a mapping of each specific control unit (STG) here so we can discuss it further.
In the engine control unit (ECU), deactivation is indicated through coding. In my case, this resulted in a "system error" message, and then the vehicle's onboard network self-corrected.

In the 26-bit long encoding of the on-board network diagnostic device, not all bits are explicitly defined. It might be worth investigating whether there are any correlations with the bits mentioned by Herbert.

Since someone asked about mapping, here's a quick guide:
- First, determine the login code of the control unit (ECU) via the VCDS main menu > Select Control Unit > Control Unit Number > Security Access (or Login). Then, the code will be displayed by VCDS when the input field is hovered over with the mouse.
- Then, in the VCDS main menu, go to "Applications" > "Control Unit Overview" - here, enter the control unit number and login code, select "CSV" (so that it can be read by everyone, "PLA" is for Ross-Tech professionals), and create the overview.

The generated CSV file will contain a table listing all adaptation channels, along with their descriptions (if available), and their current values.

I'm not getting a code for the access authorization to the central control unit (09). Otherwise, I could try accessing it through adaptation, like with an Audi. But it's failing because of the code.

Okay, so if I enter the access permission codes and also try it through the encoding and customization options, it keeps reverting back to "active."
