Hello Rainer!
I will probably follow your advice!
Regarding this matter, I have a couple of questions.

Why not just replace the entire (used) MSG unit at once?
Do I need the exact matching MSG (Modular Service Unit) to be able to remove the correct sensor?
"I'll try searching on Google, or do you happen to have a picture-based guide that shows me which sensor I need?"
4. Is this the part I need: VW Polo 9N 1.2 12V pressure sensor, Bosch part number 06B906051, Bosch part number 0261230031?

Thank you and best regards.
Volker.

Hi.

If you encounter one, the solution is simple. Problems might arise depending on the specific WFS generation, but they can usually be resolved.

No, it's sufficient if the sensor is the same, and if you obtain an EDC17U1 of the same or a similar generation, the probability is very high.

I don't have an identical control unit right now, but I can check.

No, that's the pressure sensor for the boost pressure, which is located in the intake manifold or intercooler.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you very much for the detailed answer!
"While I'm searching for a suitable MSG (presumably referring to a replacement part), will it damage the engine if I continue driving?"

And perhaps a tip: how can I tell if the found gearbox comes from a similar series? Should, for example, the first digits of the part number match? Or should it come from a vehicle with the same engine code?

Hi,

I apologize for the previous error; you already have an EDC17U1. Any donor ECU with part number 045-906-013, regardless of the following letter, should be suitable.
That's bad because the EDC17 is generally more difficult to open, especially if it's the first time you're doing it, and this type of control unit is also more expensive on the used market. icon_sad.gif

Opening the control unit should definitely be practiced on the donor ECU. icon_exclaim.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

No problem, I appreciate you giving me such valuable tips!
I'm going to start looking for it...

Can you tell me if it might be detrimental to the engine if I continue driving like this?

Hi,

Quote:
Can you make a statement about whether it might be detrimental to the engine if I continue driving like this?

Essentially, the ambient pressure sensor only removes boost pressure and power.
The only potential issue would be if you drive over a mountain pass and the ambient pressure sensor incorrectly reads sea level.

As long as you don't exceed approximately 1000 meters above sea level, you definitely don't have to worry. Since the charger has some reserve capacity, it would probably be possible to go up to 1500 meters without the device falling apart.

See the search for "Barometric Height Formula."

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello.

I chose this solution for my air fryer: MPX4115A.

It cost me 25 euros for the materials and soldering when I replaced the height sensor. Whether that's also possible with the OP's Polo needs to be investigated.

Greetings, Rüdi

Hello Ruedi,

I haven't really addressed your response yet.
Considering the prices for used MSGs, your approach is quite interesting!
How did you know that the sensor you mentioned was the right one for your car? By any chance, do you also have an EDC17U01?

If that's the case, I would also be interested in knowing how it can be opened. Rainer says it's not that simple...

Thank you!!

I would also be interested in that,

Use Google Image Search to see where something is stuck on the circuit board. Using a hot air gun and two wide spatulas as levers is helpful.

My advice would be to practice opening it on another identical ECU, because you can easily slip up. icon_idea.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

Rüdi's approach won't work here.

The EDC17 has a relatively small surface-mount sensor that is almost completely flush with the circuit board.
Opening an EDC17 module is not fun because it's glued to the edges with a large area of thermal conductive silicone.

Thoughtful: Obtain identical ECUs and go to the icon_biggrin.gif WFS (Workshop Flight Simulator) to calibrate them... you just have to clarify beforehand what it costs, and then switch them over on-site. This would certainly be a less stressful solution, and in case of an "error" during opening, probably also the cheaper option.

Best regards, Rainer.

Klingt echt vernünftig! "Thank you!"

One more thing:
A side effect of this error in the MSG is that the cruise control cannot be activated anymore (emergency mode?).
It would be great if the cruise control at least worked sometimes. Is there a way to achieve that?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Hi,"

If the engine control unit is in emergency mode, the cruise control may no longer be activatable. Since the cruise control is essentially a software function within the engine control unit, I don't see any quick way to fix this.

Best regards, Rainer.

Yes, both EDC17U1 models should be compatible.
