Hi Ulf,

For example, according to the catalog, the G4, with its 81 kW TDI engine, weighs 84 kilograms more than the G3 (in both cases, referring to the minimum curb weight).

Since the 81kW TDI is no longer available, I'm using the 130PD as a comparison, and that one is about 30kg heavier. icon_sad.gif

Whether you choose the 3-door or the 4-door version, and whether it has air conditioning or not, the slight difference in weight is likely negligible.

The G3 was available without ABS and ESP! In contrast, the G4 is no longer available without these systems. Also, an ABS unit can easily weigh 20kg more than a "normal" ABS-less braking system.

Unless the list of optional extras for the 4-series is significantly shorter than for the 3-series, then it was actually possible to save more weight by omitting options from the 3-series than from the 4-series.

Always included as standard:
ESP/ABS - Standard feature in the current G4 series, optional for the G3 at an additional cost.
ZV - G4 series currently only available for G3 models at an additional cost.
EFH - G4 current series, available for G3 only with an additional charge.
Side airbags - G4 series, only available in the latest G3 series - otherwise, they are an optional extra.
Head airbags - available in the G4 series, not available in the G3.

... and many little things that I can't quite recall right now...

"My G3 only had a single control unit for the engine airbag and combination instruments, while my G4 is a veritable electronic graveyard (central locking + alarm + electric windows, ABS/ESP, etc.)."

The heavier 4-door model, according to the catalog, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h 0.2 seconds faster than the G3 with 81 kW... well, we've already discussed that.

... It sounds kind of silly, I know. But I don't believe it.

Oh, here's a start with one of those "innovative" manufacturers.
Then it could only take 50 years for VAG to follow the trend icon_twisted.gif.

Does anyone here already know the curb weights of the Golf 5 compared to the Golf 4 with the same engine?

Okay, I don't know anything about the weights yet, but apparently the G5 will have a lot of aluminum in it. But I'm not the slightest bit interested in that! I need a "Pampersbomber," and that won't be available with the G4 anymore. So, the next VW will probably come from Cologne or Munich icon_smile.gif. Because I'm not interested in the Touran at all!

Hi Bertil.

My tractor already has ABS installed as standard (which I didn't need) ... but otherwise, it was still nice to get to know it icon_smile.gif.

I previously had the AFN engine in my Corrado (weighed 1190 kg) and now in my A6 (not yet weighed, but the paperwork says 1550 kg)... both received the exact same tuning maps in the chip. And the Audi is much slower.
Here is the translation:

This is a short story about weight icon_smile.gif
.

Hi Arne,

In terms of raw numbers, this can also be calculated in the DZR system.
But how a 35% reduction in average acceleration felt, for example, as measured by the "Popometer," was something I had little experience with – in any case, the sluggishness of the Passat was quite alarming to me.

And the significantly varying instantaneous fuel consumption values at full throttle (let's get back to the actual topic) contradict the other previous posts (thank you for all the answers!), which report a spread of about 0.2 liters.

Therefore, I suspect that the mass airflow sensor (MAF), which is usually the primary suspect when there's a lack of power, is malfunctioning.
