Hi,

My CALIX has 900 watts - it definitely needs to be preheated for at least an hour! How long are you planning to preheat with those 450 watts?
900 watts is barely enough power when the outside temperature is cold. I estimate that roughly 500 watts are dissipated into the environment without significantly warming the coolant.
If you use a pre-heater in the supply line to the oil cooler, you also won't need a lift or pit for installation (see article). I did all of the above on my AXR.

Okay, mine isn't working right now, but it has a vacuum-operated sliding valve in the coolant hose before the heater.
