No, it also provides a calculation value for the start of injection. If the sensor indicates a "cold" engine when the engine is hot, it results in premature fuel injection, which increases the nozzle pressure.
To avoid this, you should drive as "civilly" as possible on the long journey = avoid heavy loads, then IMO the engine should not suffer noticeably.
