Hi Ulf,
I've only ever bought used cars so far! I couldn't afford a new car with that engine, and even if I could, I would probably always buy used cars. Just thinking about how much value a car loses in the first year makes me sick; that money can be put to better use, or you could just get a used car with a bigger engine. The 130 horsepower TDI in the Ibiza should be really fun. Speaking of which, why doesn't your new car have air conditioning? If you ever plan to sell this car, the lack of air conditioning and ESP are absolute deal-breakers.

Hmm, so the current 1.9 TDI engines in Audis (8E) have a maintenance interval of 120,000 km. That would probably mean they've reached the same point regarding the timing belt, or? |
Hi Julian,
That's not what I meant.
The OVERALL PERFORMANCE of all VP engines is likely to differ significantly from that of PD engines. That's what I meant.
The fact that the timing belt durability has to be significantly better in the new PD 16V is evident from the increased service interval of 120,000 km. Gruß Bertil

It's good that at least someone thought about the SDI (Special Deductible Item)... (it often gets 'overlooked').
I drive a Volkswagen Polo 6N with the 'AKU' engine, which has a displacement of 1.7 liters and an output of 44 kW.
Total mileage: 69,000 km. New engine installed from 56,000 km due to a timing belt failure.
I'm quite satisfied overall, except for the engine damage.

Why not have air conditioning in cars? I find it a very practical feature, especially in the summer. You can go ahead and drive off in your minimalist car; I'd rather be sitting in a cool car.
Best regards, WarLord.

Air conditioning is also a matter of safety; humans make twice as many mistakes when the temperature reaches 27°C. I can't provide an exact source for this right now, but I read it somewhere during that record-breaking summer (probably in a publication like Spiegel or Focus).
But to be honest, I actually prefer a car without all that extra stuff.
I see it the same way as Ulf does.

Hi,
If I were a long-distance driver, I would probably think the same way (after last summer).
"But I can usually park in the shade at work, and it takes me about 30 minutes to get there (it's a country road through villages, so having the windows open almost always provides good ventilation in the summer because there's very little stop-and-go traffic)."
So, I prefer to work "netto" for about two months of the year and, in return, have roughly 40 kilograms less unnecessary weight on board for the other ten months, and I'm guaranteed never to have any problems with an air conditioning system (or anything else like that) - that's my personal assessment.
De-fogging windows in the winter isn't a real argument for me, especially considering that the garage is . Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf,
Again, the favorite topic ).
By the way, here's another argument IN FAVOR of air conditioning: Having open windows in the summer is a luxury that not everyone can afford. For example, I suffer quite a bit from hay fever in the summer, which is significantly alleviated by the pollen filters in my car. Before, with open windows, it was much worse than it is now with air conditioning and closed windows – ventilation alone would never be enough. In a car without air conditioning, you simply have to lower or open the windows when it's 35 degrees Celsius.

Hi,
I drive an A6 with 110 horsepower , but it has a chip tuning upgrade .
With climate and everything else that makes the car heavy.
I weighed him the other day, including Arne and about three-quarters of a full tank.
With its new A8-style 19-inch rims, it weighs just under 1700 kg.
And since the 19-inch rims, he needs about 0.4 liters more .
Regards,
arne

Sorry, Bertil, I wrote that before I thought about it.
The 8V 1.9 TDI PD engines also have a maintenance interval of 120,000 km, that's what I meant. Unfortunately, my AWX engine has a shorter interval of 90,000 km. With the model change to MJ04, Audi extended the interval to 120,000 km.

Hi Ulf.
GanDriving through the city at 1000 RPM, and then if you accelerate, it's only logical that not much happens.
I explain this with the engine noise; you drive much more calmly with a V6 because it runs at lower RPMs compared to a 4-cylinder engine.
Hi Marco!
I don't know what kind of crazy things you might have been up to, but I can't understand your statements.
The only advantage of V6 TDIs is their shorter firing interval, which results in less vibration. This allows for stiffer engine mounts. Specifically in the A4 (8E), the 1.9-liter engines are extremely softly mounted to keep vibrations away from the passenger compartment. This, in a way, contributes to a more direct response.
What bothers me about all the V6 engines and the 2.0 TDI is this lack of low-end torque, combined with a sudden surge of power starting around 1800 RPM. While such a setup might be acceptable on the highway, it's extremely annoying in city driving, especially when paired with a manual transmission. Try driving a 3.0d, a 320 CDI, or a 4.0 CDI. The tuning is much better in those engines.
Regarding the noise, I would also like to say that (especially with the A4), you really can't hear what's happening under the hood anymore from around 50 km/h. I can have conversations with passengers in my 1.9-liter car at 230 km/h just as quietly as if I had a V6 engine. I haven't had to shout yet.
The V6 engine doesn't really start to deliver usable power until around 1600 RPM, while the 1.9-liter engine can perform well from as low as 1200 RPM, depending on its tuning. There's simply more rotational inertia at play.
The only particulate filter that's truly annoying is the one with 100 horsepower in the Golf 4. It makes a constant rumbling noise, and I don't know why. I've driven four different Golf 4s with it, and they all make the same rumbling sound...

Open windows also increase fuel consumption (which many people don't consider). Well, it's up to each individual whether they want to drive a minimalist vehicle or have more features (I'm thinking of the beautiful leather interior I plan to install *yum*). But you're right that having fewer parts means less that can break down (like my air conditioning system, which I should probably repair soon). Oh yeah, and if you're concerned about weight: get alloy wheels and remove the spare tire.
Best regards, WarLord.

Hi Julian,
I can't say the same about my AXR, though. The 96kW engines I've driven weren't any better. The PD engine runs a bit rougher when it's cold compared to the VP engine. But that's probably normal. Gruß Bertil

Well, I've driven the 96kW engine in two different Golfs, and it was noticeably quieter than the 74kW one. Maybe you've broken your AXR engine in really well; back then, I always had a lot of workshop vehicles because my ALH Golf 4 just kept being in the garage.
The performance was always quite good with the 74 kW engines, but my ALH engine was noticeably quieter, for example when cruising at 100 km/h in 5th gear. And mine had a sports exhaust (those were the days...), which made a lot of noise. That's why I was always surprised.

"I'm very happy with my ASZ PD TDI engine, which has 96 kW. Of course, it doesn't have the same smooth power delivery as a V6, but that's just how things are. What do you expect? We once had a Mercedes 190D, a great car, never broke down. We sold it after 400,000 km because the green interior seemed to trigger aggression in everyone who sat inside. If you think a PD engine is too loud, go back 10 years and get into an old diesel. The 190 had neither power nor torque. What it did have was a great heater and an incredibly high noise level. However, we could always talk comfortably inside it. I never tried to reach 230 km/h (grin), probably because of the drag coefficient; there wasn't much point in going beyond 150 +- 25 km/h depending on the incline."
What I'm trying to say is, my PD (presumably referring to a specific car model or engine type) is quite a rough character, but that was clear to me when I chose a diesel. When I drive the car comfortably in the city, I never mind the slight rumbling noise. And on the highway, I've never had any problems with the engine noise either. To be honest, even if I manage to get my Golf up to 230 km/h (not just because it takes a lot of effort, but also because you almost can't drive that fast anywhere and rarely need to), I wouldn't really enjoy relaxed conversation in that situation anymore. However, this isn't due to the supposedly loud engine (I can't really say which is louder, the diesel or the wind noise), but more to do with the suspension, which seems to have been developed on some kind of Sanella test bench...
The young Volkswagen enthusiasts should have driven a Ford Focus earlier in life.
Okay, Ulf, since you're supposedly not bothered by engine noise, I can recommend the ASZ... except when the outside temperature is 8.5°C and the engine is cold... then it freezes up so much that you have to rev the engine constantly while idling (!!!). But even the 190 handled that better!
