Hi gremlin.
My Golf is a 2003 model (from the Netherlands) without ESP, but it does have EDS and ASR. It seems that the BAS (Brake Assist System) didn't make it to the Netherlands. I haven't actually tested it as you described, but when I tried an emergency braking maneuver (with plenty of space around) using insufficient pedal pressure, nothing seemed to intervene. I'm familiar with this behavior from our C-Class, which brakes very aggressively when you press the pedal quickly. So, it seems there might be two different types of hydraulic brake boosters (HBZ) in the 2003 Golf model, right?

When attempting (with a parking space wide and clear) to perform an emergency braking maneuver with insufficient pedal pressure, it seems that nothing intervenes.

The emergency braking assist system only activates if the speed of the pedal movement suggests an emergency braking situation, i.e., if you press the pedal down very quickly.

It's also quite possible that the Flying Dutchman still had the older BKV systems installed without an assistant.
'My colleagues need to check the VW catalog for that.'

I think I have the old one.

The operation is clear and was also intentionally triggered. Quickly release the accelerator and apply the brakes with force, but the brake pedal wasn't pressed down far enough.

Well, that won't stop my Holland golf shoes from getting dirty again.

Holland bulbs have fewer: 0 ESP.
0 GSH
0 BAS

"It's interesting, except for the missing ESP. When I bought it, I was assured that it would have the exact same equipment (and even be better equipped in terms of comfort)."

I'm curious to see what else is missing.

Hi Matthias,

...the glow plugs or the PTC elements are also likely missing, which you forgot to include in your list.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan... I meant the glow plug heating with GSH!!!! icon_wink.gif

Regarding the PTCs... yes, I've already been thinking about that, as I mentioned in Ulf's second most recent thread. It doesn't bother me, and we both bought our cars in the Netherlands for other reasons. And just now, when I was down looking for the sticker for the special features and equipment in the trunk, I noticed that my spare tire is mounted on an aluminum rim that matches the tires on the car. Okay, maybe I should have checked that in the last 18 months. I'll check the tire pressure while I'm filling up the gas.

Hi Matthias,

Sorry, I had overlooked the GSH.

Regarding the spare tire... mine is one of those fancy black temporary spare tires, which is currently residing in the basement.

Best regards,

Jan.

Dear fellow contributors,

I believe the initial question, whether the electronic differential lock (EDS) can be retrofitted without a huge amount of effort, has not yet been answered icon_eek.gif.
Can you retrofit Electronic Differential Lock (EDS) by simply swapping the ABS module (since the control unit is integrated into it), or are additional parts like cables, brake lines, or other components required?

Sincerely,
K. Oldewurtel

Probably, no one knows your model. With the previous model (B4), everything you feared would likely be due for replacement, with "Miscellaneous" referring to a relay. Perhaps someone can help you at www.meckisforum.de, or maybe there's already information available there.

It's a shame that the topic wasn't completed.
I have a Passat TDI from the year 1999, and this question has been bothering me for a long time. However, I've never been able to find an answer.
Basically, I believe the vehicle has everything needed to implement either an ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) or an EDS (Electronic Differential Lock). I always hoped it could be activated and a switch installed, similar to how the cruise control (GRA) works.

Maybe there will be some news.

Thank you, CS.

It's likely that few people will take the trouble to utilize the benefits of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and similar technologies.

The best solution is for me to buy a Quatro. Then I wouldn't need all that electronic gadgetry, except for ABS.
