The pump costs €1900 if you trade it in, and €3000 when purchased new.
The camshafts have a different part number and have been hardened to a higher degree. According to the ELSA guidelines, at least.

Have you ever replaced the fuel temperature sensor?
It only costs a few euros, and as mentioned in another post here, it can definitely cause such symptoms. Gruß

Very interesting. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about 'fuel temperature sensor' in the forum. Could you perhaps help me out briefly? Do you know more about it?
Thank you very much!

I then replaced the sensor myself yesterday, and so far I haven't had any more problems, even though I drove almost 150 km on the highway yesterday with a very heavy foot. A friend who owns the same machine in the same car also confirmed, while riding with me on his usual route, that the performance figures were consistent with his.
Because my ASZ hasn't been weak on every day so far, I unfortunately can't really confirm its effectiveness yet. You can probably still afford those 11 euros in your repair history . Gruß

Hi Roger,
Based on your reported symptoms, I would say that a diesel temperature reading that is too low, once it falls below a certain threshold, could plausibly be an explanation. This is because the actual temperature (which increases with high engine load, but with a delay) might be higher than what is being reported.
-> Thermo-oscillations in the sensor circuit or similar.
Have you checked the contacts on the connector side for corrosion or bent pins that might be affecting the contact pressure? It might be the connector instead of the sensor that's causing the problem... Gruß Ulf

@Ulf:
Yes, I've examined the connector, and also the pins in the old sensor. Everything appears normal, as far as I can tell. The plug was also securely locked in place.
The refurbished old sensor produced a signal that, in my opinion, is plausible. In a water bath at approximately 5 degrees Celsius, it measured about 7 kOhms, and in almost boiling water, it measured about 0.7 kOhms. All values in between showed no jumps. However, it still seems to be related to the sensor, because it now runs much more smoothly and also exhibits the old performance, even though it was turned up quite high a few times just before. But it's still too early to declare it safe; I'd rather wait a bit longer . Do the measured R-values match yours?
With the borrowed VAG-Com, before the test drive, I only measured the temperatures after about 2 hours of standing in the garage. I got a reading of approximately 35 degrees Celsius for the diesel temperature, which seemed quite plausible. That's why I stopped checking the values while driving and instead focused on the groups as described in the technical article. Gruß

Does anyone know where the diesel temperature sensor is located on an AFB engine?
I've been looking around a bit, but could it be inside the ESP?

At least, this is the case for the 4-cylinder VP37 engine...

Guste.
