The ATD has a regulated EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system, but it does not have a regulated water cooling system for it.
Since the ATD is an EU3 model, I would say that it doesn't recognize a "faulty" EGR valve.

PD engines are better than their reputation suggests. The AJM engine, which was rushed onto the market, caused a lot of problems.

With that hope in mind, I also bought my Polo. It seems it still pays off to not actively participate in the "banana phase" of new technologies and vehicle models (where they are maturing for customers), but rather to wait and see first .

Tomorrow evening, we are planning to start our vacation with the help of the ASZ (presumably a local organization or service).
I'm curious to see the long-distance fuel consumption... If everything goes according to plan, I'll be offline until around the end of August.

Is there possibly a solenoid valve somewhere that controls the water flow and is controlled by the ECU (Engine Control Unit)?

Almost got it!

Not a solenoid valve directly, but pneumatics controlled via a solenoid valve.

In the pneumatic system, where the ATD controls the shut-off valve, the AXR regulates the water cooling for the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system. The AXR uses an electric shut-off/throttle valve for this purpose.

...and the rumbling sound from the transmission when coasting is still there, but that seems to be more of a problem with the gearbox itself.

So, we need 3 actuators to cultivate the oil soot sludge in the intake manifold under precisely controlled conditions .

Nöööööö, das hab ich nicht gemeint. Du besitzt einen Kleintwagen mit der Elektronikstruktur des VW D1 (Phaeton). Die funktioniert da schon nicht besonders gut .... also ein echtes Bananenprodukt .....

Functionally, yes, but mechanically completely different due to the altered exhaust system.

Wenn du meinst .... Yes.
I've never seen so little oil sludge buildup in a TDI intake manifold as I did with the AXR engine.

I just hope that at least the most obvious flaws were corrected since the start of production of the 9N in 2002 (?). And I hope that my "minimal electronics" course will help to minimize the frustration over the years.
