@dieselmartin

I referred to the X-contact as the wire that provides power to the radio when the ignition is turned on, i.e., the switched voltage supply. Mine had been damaged. As far as I know, the control unit (STG) is also powered from the same contact.

@home
If you have encountered the same problem when controlling a radio or amplifier as I did icon_redface.gif, it may very well be due to the ignition switch. The reason is simply the increased current draw, for which the contacts in the ignition switch are not designed.

It's just a guess, although it led to the exact same error for me.

Heart.

Sorry, but something like "X-Contact" is already a "reserved word" at VW icon_wink.gif.

Because there's an X-relay, and that has nothing to do with the radio.

The radio in the G3 is switched on via a separate contact, which is not connected to the ignition system.

Please pay close attention to word choice, especially when certain terms have already been established (it's nothing personal, but otherwise we tend to misunderstand each other).

@ home

It's not necessarily a bad thing that it's a T3. However, the 021 AF engine control unit that was installed in 1996 originally included an immobilizer system.
So, you must have somehow tricked them – for example, by sticking the key chip next to the reading coil. If it's now loose or missing, you're experiencing exactly the phenomenon you described.

It's not distracting if you write what you actually mean. It's actually more annoying when, after 20 responses, you find out that everything is completely different.

So, just tell me which engine control unit (ECU) you have and how you bypassed the built-in vehicle security system (VSS) in it.

Hi Martin,
Take a look at this link.

http://www.vwbus-t3-tdi.de WHICH ENGINE?

You are right, the engine is from a 1994 model, but I have already mentioned several times that I definitely do not have an immobilizer. Does the year of manufacture really play a role in this regard? So, is the issue of the immobilizer now clarified?

What could it possibly be?
If the WFS is not available!
It really doesn't matter if it's a Golf or a T3, both would have that problem. I just know that it runs for a second and then turns off again!

I have a voltage of 5 volts applied to the LMM.

I hope something else comes to mind.
Thank you in advance.

Chiao Home.

Okay, the engine was from 10/94, then from Feb 96.

It doesn't really matter. The only other thing that comes to mind is the KW screw.

Sorry.

What makes you so sure about the WFS? It smells fishy!
'First, I'm interested in the engine control unit (ECU) number. Also, I'd like to know what the error memory says about it.'

What speaks against it is the problem of vehicles blocking lanes on the highway.

edit: I'm also curious what you think the 5V at the MAF sensor has to do with the engine stopping after 2 seconds.

hi,

The 'X-contact' might also be the solution to my problem (the radio only worked intermittently when powered through the 'ignition plus' connection).

Okay, so what needs to be exchanged?
ignition switch? or the unit behind the ignition switch? or the entire assembly?
preferably with part number...

THANK YOU!

P.S.: My G3 is from May 1995 and originally came with a WFS (Westfalia conversion), but it had square indicator lights.

@MichaB.

You only need the ignition switch. The original part number is 357 905 865. It was replaced as part of an improvement with part number 6N0 905 865.
Costs approximately 20 euros.

Heart.

Hi,

Okay, to clarify: the "X-contact" or "X-terminal" is not a fanciful term, but a precisely defined terminal designation, just like terminals 15, 30, 31, etc., except that this is a VW standard, not a DIN standard. VW invented the X-terminal in the 1970s. It's similar to "ignition plus" (terminal 15), but it is switched off during starting. All major power consumers, such as lights, wipers, rear window heater, etc., are connected to it. Because the contact in the ignition switch was overloaded, the X-contact relief relay was later introduced. Nothing motor-related can be connected to the X-terminal (as Martin already mentioned), because the engine would then never start.

The original wiring for radios may look different, but as far as I know, VW did not include terminal 15 or the "x" terminal in the original design. However, if you connect a 1.5kW amplifier to the original wiring, something is guaranteed to burn out, and other components may also be damaged.

Regarding the actual problem, I suggest checking the error codes and verifying the plausibility of the engine control unit (ECU) data. Then you can proceed further. If you deactivated the Wastegate Flap System (WFS), it might be related to that.

Greetings.

I would like to take another, closer look at the shut-off valve.
It might be defective or have a broken cable, etc.

How does the statement 'solenoid valve is OK' come about?

X-relays shouldn't play a role if everything is wired correctly.
The control units are powered directly from terminal 15 and draw power either directly from source 30 (ABS) or through their own relays (EDC) if they require more current.
On X, you only find unimportant things (like lights, windshield wipers, and the like).
If terminal 15 loses power, the X-relay usually disconnects immediately, which would be noticeable because everything would flicker or turn off.

Okay, here's something else that comes to mind: Is the AGR (Abgasrückführung) system active? If the AGR valve opens and gets stuck, meaning it can't close properly, the engine will stall (due to lack of fresh air).
-> check if it's closed, and then disable it.

...especially since, in my opinion, with a blocked WFS, he probably wouldn't have been able to reach the highway in the first place, and would have ended up stranded somewhere else... ?

Unless some kind of electronic "gag" (I have no idea about possible details) for the WFS had "come loose" while driving, and now the WFS is "acting up" again icon_eek.gif icon_question.gif.
