In this case, Martin unfortunately has to prove that the damage existed from the beginning (except within the first 6 months). If the dealer (and only to the dealer can a warranty claim be made) does not want to have any trouble, he will be so accommodating and handle the matter under the warranty.

By the way, almost all German car manufacturers do not offer a warranty but only the legally required guarantee (the only exception here is actually OPEL!).

Hi,

VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda have been offering a 2-year warranty again since January 1, 2005.

http://www.volkswagen-media-services.com/medias_publish/ms/content/de/pressemitteilungen/2004/12/29/volkswagen-konzern.standard.gid-oeffentlichkeit.html

I haven't yet figured out whether this includes workshop services or only applies to new cars.

Best regards,
Munch.

While this is very welcome news, unfortunately, it doesn't apply to Martin, as his case falls within the two-year warranty period.

Hello Martin,

I've been thinking about it all evening, and I realized I forgot something regarding the things I mentioned to you in a private message.

It's questionable whether the statutory warranty applies to wear and tear parts (and if so, for how long)... Google isn't turning up any relevant information, and unfortunately, I don't have a friendly invoice here.
I'm curious to see what comes out of this tomorrow...

Good luck!

Well, it's great news that the nice lady from 0800-VOLKSWAGEN mentioned a 24-month warranty.

It's getting more and more confusing.

As I said, there's a warranty, but it only covers defects, not wear and tear. And wear and tear starts with the exhaust system, specifically the part behind the bend/turbocharger.

Oh, things are going to get interesting tomorrow!

I still bet that they'll say "the 1Z drone always does that."

Hi!
So, I can't imagine that there would be a 24-month warranty on parts.
Most likely, the kind lady (like many people) equated the terms 'product liability/warranty' and 'guarantee' due to a lack of knowledge and common usage.

The one-year warranty that's always included with the inspection is probably what they call the 'mobility guarantee,' which is something completely different and is often confused with the regular warranty.

Okay, enough about those tedious legal matters; you'll figure it out tomorrow! Besides, as I said, I don't agree with the terms and conditions here; it's clearly stated in black and white, and the rest is just speculation. Personally, I don't think that the flimsy flex pipe (a design flaw) should be considered a wear part...

'Thumbs up'

Best regards,

new_shocked.gif I am surprised new_shocked.gif

Car on stage, mechanic hits it - not much sound.
"You can hear it both when the engine is idling or when it's running at 1100 RPM."
Okay, car down, I go in, car up.
1100 - hum hum, drone drone.
Below, there's a lot of commotion and changing noises.
"That's coming from the intermediate muffler."
"Yeah, I heard that, but I already replaced that part before, and it didn't change anything. It was only after replacing the flexible pipe that it worked."
locksmith, locksmith, screw, screw.
drive down.
Master: "Do you have time?" Me: "Yes, why?"
"Once we have the pipe, we'll do it right away."
"I'm like, new, and it's free."
"yes"

icon_razz.gif icon_eek.gif icon_lol.gif

Rohr wasn't there.

Okay, I've written up the order, stamped it with a bold "Warranty" stamp, included the old invoice, and ordered the pipe.

Yay, I'm getting a new one!

"Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that anymore," said the master. "But we'll see."

I'm getting a new flexible pipe! *EXCITED*

PS: I couldn't resist telling the guys that the AHU pipe also fits and should be better icon_smile.gif. They looked quite surprised - because it's not listed that way in the computer system icon_wink.gif.

First of all, warmest greetings!!

That's not entirely correct! You should still have a partial warranty/guarantee for the remaining time, up to the 24 months. I'm not sure exactly how it works in terms of workmanship.

That's how I understood it as well. I had specifically asked, what happens if the new FR "fails" again in 22 months? Would I be allowed to return icon_smile.gif?

But I'll probably modify the Trekker so that the new tube lasts longer.

- new engine mounts
- maybe a shut-off valve after all icon_smile.gif

I already told you that replacing it is not a problem. icon_eek.gif You will not get a warranty on the new flex pipe. icon_evil.gif That's completely ridiculous because, for example, if you have a new car with a warranty and they replace the PD elements, the warranty only lasts as long as the car's warranty. That means, if your car has six months of warranty left when the PDs are replaced, after another year, they will be broken again. Unfortunately, there's nothing more you can do about it under warranty. I've also been annoyed about this before. }

Best regards, Christian.

@ Christian

If you replace "warranty" with "guarantee," I completely agree with you (both about the fact itself and about the fact that it's a bad thing).

I haven't read everything yet (due to lack of time). But if the flexible part itself is defective and you don't want to buy the expensive original part, then do it the way I did back then.

Go to www.uni-fit.de and get an accessory part from there, and then weld it in.
Take a little longer, and it will last. These things aren't expensive, and since then, I haven't had any problems with them (it was a 1.8T engine back then).

Best regards,
Mike.

Hi Mike,

The 1.8T engine is likely to be significantly quieter than a 95 model 1Z (a diesel engine), which tends to regularly damage the exhaust system.

Two years ago, welding was also considered, but even the professional exhaust system manufacturer only offered it to me with a complete disclaimer of warranty.

I'm getting a new one from VW on Friday.

The problem will likely arise again in 22 months icon_evil.gif, and hopefully, by then, I will have my A6 icon_smile.gif.

First of all: Congratulations!

Could you not have convinced him with 100 euros or something similar to immediately install the AHU system?

Regards,
Guste.

No, the service technician (or mechanic?) and the person who actually did the work were initially very confused when I told them the story about the AHU.

The fact that I was there with a 1Z engine with an AFN cover completely threw her off (she was looking under the cover to find the engine number and identification letter icon_lol.gif).

It's always amusing to watch the reactions of the Volkswagen employees when you tell them what they're currently working on and what other interesting things exist within the Volkswagen world.

Friday, we'll install the new pipe first.

Then I still need to do the timing chain replacement, and after that, I'll move on to the engine mounts.

If I get a Passat PD intake manifold, including the bypass valve...

Dinner *VOMIT*

The flexible pipe is broken again.

It lasted for 10 months...

Insgesamt hab ich dann fuer 33 Monate Ruhe die 600 EUR in 2003 hingelegt .. Awesome.

"Gewehr" is probably no longer available, only "Gewehr" remains. icon_twisted.gif

There must be a reason why this thing only lasted for 10 months.
Installation error? Or were there any modifications made that could lead to increased stress?

It can't be considered normal, even Seats tend to last longer icon_wink.gif.
