I've been to the workshop several times now. They don't just do updates for no reason; there has to be a valid reason. In my case, the reason is that an entire control unit is malfunctioning.
Error description:
- DWA is not working after a few days.
- The "Comfort Settings" menu item disappears after a few attempts in MFA+.
- Assistance system for automatic headlights: The headlights turn on, but sometimes they don't turn off, and sometimes they don't turn on at all, even though the light sensor reports full brightness (7).

These errors already existed before I was able to start coding.

After repeatedly insisting, I managed to convince the workshop foreman to perform the update. Initially, he was reluctant because updating multiple control units could take several hours.

He connected the "Siemens" tester to the car on the other side via Ethernet and provided a backup power supply from the battery. After approximately 20 minutes, followed by several cycles of turning the ignition on and off, the process was complete.

Unfortunately, only the engine control unit was updated from version 9384 to 9707. Even that alone has worked wonders. In the lower RPM range, the engine now has much more torque, which is evident in that I can drive out of the garage with less than 1500 RPM without it stalling. It even works at 1000 RPM. Previously, this was only possible with momentum or high clutch wear. At intersections, I can now start driving with the air conditioning on and 1000 RPM without the car stalling. There is no white smoke when accelerating fully or starting without preheating. Although I have repeatedly complained to the workshop about these problems, their response was: "We cannot reproduce it, that's just how it is!" - Great!

Unfortunately, the tester now shows "no update needed," but the door control modules definitely still have the old software version. I'm going to take the car to the workshop for the 12th time so that they hopefully can finally fix this issue as described above. After all, it's still under warranty.

What should I tell the workshop supervisor so that they press the test button to initiate the updates?

I assume the tester retrieves the updates via the internet from Volkswagen, or perhaps it only gets them from a server in the workshop that isn't up-to-date?

Not all updates are available online; in the case of door control units, as mentioned before, only parts of the software (configuration) are updated, rather than a complete flash. This means that the process is carried out using guided functions within the VAS tester and not via SVM/online. The relevant TPL document 2014232 describes the exact procedure – your dealer should actually check their computer and read up on this; otherwise, they will constantly appear as if they know nothing.

I'll skip describing the procedure for the other door control units, as it's essentially the same process.

Regarding the point of "just doing updates," most people don't want updates simply for the sake of it, and unfortunately, you often see this mentioned in reviews of many retailers. Of course, it's easy to fall into the trap of updating everything without thinking about the specific issue being addressed, but one thing is clear: new software versions are not released arbitrarily. Ultimately, your retailer is the key player here, and they hold more power, but often it comes down to their approach and how they interact with customers.

Regarding the rain/light sensor, you still have the AE installed - a component from Bosch - which has now been replaced by AB - a component from TRW. It's up to each individual to decide what they think about that. I had the AE in my Octavia and experienced massive problems with the windshield wiper behavior, so I insisted on replacing it with an AB unit, and sure enough, the problem was solved. As for the light sensor behavior, I don't recall any significant issues, but I must add that I always drive with daytime running lights (now via the taillights), so this only affected me to a limited extent.

Regarding the comfort settings, you could try clearing the learning values in the combination instrument (adaptation channel 000). While there is a new software version available for your comfort control unit, I don't yet have any specific information about when and how this would be used.
