The lingering warmth likely comes from the old asbestos head gaskets, like the ones my 1Z originally had from the factory. In current multi-layer metal gaskets, this is not permissible.

Hello wolfi_b.

How does it really work? Don't let me die stupidly icon_lol.gif.

It would certainly be frustrating if we ourselves were responsible for the cause of the cylinder head gasket failure, but at least it would be a understandable and avoidable error in the future. Otherwise, I would have to assume that the failure of the stretch bolts is somehow a systemic issue, close the TDI chapter, and sell the Audi to Kazakhstan or to the Bosporus, while there are still no serious symptoms. icon_wink.gif

Regards,
Thomas.

Oh, I've completely mixed that up. icon_redface.gif
I've changed it above.

Hello everyone,

It's been a little over 500 km and a week and a half since I tightened the valve cover screws. I've been driving those 500 km, 'really pushing it' whenever possible. The result: no more rattling! Fingers crossed. So, it was actually the screws all along!

The question of questions: How can the screws lose tension so quickly?

The instruction: Include the inspection of the ZK screws in the 'internal' maintenance schedule every 30,000 km.

Best regards,

Thomas.

Perhaps it's time to check the cylinder head screws and, if necessary, tighten them slightly to stop the bubbling and gurgling noises.
