Hello everyone,

I experienced a loss of power some time ago. After determining that the turbo boost pressure was too low (and that the part was still under warranty), I went to the Bosch service center. There, a crack was found in the exhaust manifold. Since the part was not available from VW or Seat, I had the manifold welded. After installation, I noticed yesterday that the gasket between the turbo and the exhaust pipe was broken. After giving it a little gas, a significant cloud of black smoke came out, followed by oil! So, this morning I called the workshop. The mechanic said that this was somewhat normal, because the turbo shaft is not sealed. A turbo inspection would take 2-3 weeks. icon_sad.gif Great.
Here's my question: How much oil is normal to come out of that spot? In my opinion, too much oil is coming out. The car is also smoking a lot (meaning it's burning too much oil?). The oil consumption has increased by 0.5 liters per 7500 km since the turbocharger was installed. Is it broken now, or not?

Thank you in advance for the informative answers.

Greetings.

Martin.

Hello,

If the seal is defective, it's certainly unpleasant, but not immediately life-threatening. icon_smile.gif
However, no oil should be present here, unless there was some residue from a previous repair still in the loader or intake manifold, which I see as problematic.
What is your oil consumption per 1000 km? 0.5 liters over 7,500 km would be acceptable. With that amount, it should be impossible to see any visible oil leaks around that seal.

Or could there be a crack in the turbocharger's oil supply line, causing oil to leak and drip onto the connection between the turbocharger and the exhaust?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Reiner,

First of all, thank you for the quick response.

Oil is not allowed here.

I also suspected that.

'unless it's related to a previous repair that occurred in the loader or intake system.'

Nein. Ich hatte den Ansaugtrakt komplett ausgebaut. He was dry.

, I see that as problematic.
Me too. But not the workshop. I'll teach them that eventually.

Approximately 0.2 liters.

Or does the oil supply line of the turbocharger have a crack, and is it randomly dripping onto the connection between the charger and the exhaust?
No. It definitely came from poetry. I saw it coming exactly.

Here's another question: Does the workshop even have the right to repair the car for so long without providing a replacement vehicle under the warranty? Three weeks would be a very long time to get to work without a car (2 x 40 km per day), or am I entitled to a loaner car?

Greetings.

Martin.

Hello,

Quote:
Approximately 0.2 liters

It would actually also be okay. On long trips with high engine speeds (> 4000 min -1 ), it can also be even more.

"I would have a lot to say to them... Unfortunately, I don't know what the situation is if the vehicle's warranty has already expired. But three weeks is definitely outrageous."

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

I will do that as well. By the way, another question: What is the maximum turbo boost pressure for the 1Z engine? I've found different values, ranging from 0.6 to 1.1 bar. Which one is correct?

Greetings.

Martin.

Okay, thanks. Then I have another problem. My maximum boost pressure is 0.6, but it then settles down to 0.4. I'm going to have a serious conversation with the workshop about this.

Certainly, thank you again for the quick and competent assistance. I will also provide further updates if you would like.

Greetings.

Martin.

According to the expert information I received here, I called the workshop and told them that this wouldn't work. icon_evil.gif So, I went there today and was first greeted warmly by my name. icon_smile.gif (for the first time since I started visiting this workshop!). Then, the car was put on the lift, and the turbo was inspected. The result: the turbo is broken. Now, a new turbo will be ordered and installed within a day (imagine that!). icon_biggrin.gif Why not do it like that from the beginning? Do you always have to be treated badly before you are treated properly?

Thank you again.

Greetings.

Martin.

Hello everyone,

I picked up my car from the workshop today. As promised, the repair took only 1 day. Everything went completely smoothly, and the car is hardly recognizable. icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you again to the forum for the quick and helpful assistance.

Greetings.

Martin.
