hello!
I read on the forum about resetting the control unit by disconnecting the battery... does that actually work, or do I need to take it to a workshop?
best regards, martin

Hello,
Why do you want to reset the control unit? Tschüss

Sorry, I read that on another forum.
Well, I thought maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to reset the control unit (if you even know how to do that).
My question is: Is this possible, and would it be worthwhile?
Best regards, Martin.

Since the TDI engine control units (ECUs) that I am familiar with, such as MSA12, MSA15, and EDC15, do not have a permanent power connection, they cannot be "reset" by disconnecting the battery... or whatever. -> Disconnecting the battery is pointless because it's already disconnected when the ignition is off.
According to my knowledge, there is no such procedure available through diagnostics, aside from clearing the error memory.
Best regards, Rainer.

Ich habe einen Link zum Steuergerätereset gefunden: [...]
It might not be relevant here, but if anyone's interested, I managed to integrate the Votex FFB into the key fob! If someone needs it, here's the link:

Hello,
However, that link is for a gasoline engine. It describes the throttle body adaptation and related procedures.
Normally, this is done using a diagnostic device. The key term here is "basic settings." However, it has little to do with a reset. Tschüss

Does this work with the 2.5 TDI engine, or not? Is it worth doing?

Hello,
The question remains: what are you trying to achieve with this? Are you experiencing any problems with the engine? Tschüss

No, but it says in this FAQ that it's for vehicles with modifications, like a sports air filter or chip tuning, etc. I got a sports air filter installed! So, does it make a difference, or not? I also have VAG-COM available... it should be possible to do it with that, right? Can you tell me how? Assuming it actually makes a difference!
Thank you very much.
Merlin.

I'm going to say this for what I think is the second-to-last time: it's pointless! You can stick your sports air filter on, and if you want, glue a fuel-saving magnet onto the engine control unit. You can even solder wires to the fuel injector with algae-based insulation for better emissions, disconnect the power 20 times, clear the error memory 150 times, and then put it into the basic settings mode!
If you can't answer the question of whether or not your TDI has a throttle body adaptation, then you're in the wrong place!
IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING!

*grumble* That thing about the fuel-saving magnets... didn't we already talk about that? *gg* And the algae bio-coating... well, maybe it's for those who drive PÖL cars????? I was just generally asking if it actually does anything, sorry!

'Nobody is perfect.'
...
Diesel engines do not have a throttle valve, nor do they have a lambda sensor.
Absolutely... Nobody's perfect...
New (EU4) diesel engines have a throttle valve, and some even have a lambda sensor.

The control unit should definitely have a constant positive connection.
Otherwise, it wouldn't be able to store the error codes in its memory.
After disconnecting the battery, you're definitely out of commission.
After experimenting with the mass airflow sensor, I was able to achieve...
The car can only go 20 km/h, even when you press the gas pedal fully.
I thought the control unit was broken, but after disconnecting the battery voltage...
it looked brand new again.
But how do you adjust the lambda value in a diesel engine?

The control unit should already have a permanent plus connection.
Otherwise, it wouldn't be able to store the error codes in its memory.
Have you ever heard of non-volatile memory?
Something like that is what MSG is for. It doesn't need any hype to maintain its appeal.
After disconnecting the battery, you're definitely out of commission.
Certainly not!
After experimenting with the mass airflow sensor, I was able to achieve...
Car only goes 20 km/h (at full throttle).
I thought the control unit was broken, but after disconnecting the battery voltage...
it looked brand new again.
Coincidence... it could have been something else.
But how do you adjust the lambda value in a diesel engine?
The oxygen sensor is not used for regulating the engine; it is used to monitor exhaust gas values.

I tried it out today just for fun, and I don't want to say anything about the performance right now; it could all be my imagination.
Definitely, before disconnecting the battery, I had an "EGR Range exceeded" error in the vehicle's control module (MSG), which disappeared after reconnecting the battery.
Is this a TDI model from the year 2005 with EU3 emissions standards?
