Hello,

In the earlier production years of the C4 model, there were no ODB2 connectors installed.
Were ODB2 connectors still installed in later models (1996), or did they also have the old connectors?

Since I plan to view some 96 C4 models in the near future, I just wanted to know if I absolutely need to purchase the relatively expensive adapter.
The gasoline engines should also be diagnosable using VagCom.
VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96
VW Passat 3B Variant Highline, MKB AEB, EZ98, LPG
Opel Vectra C SW First Edition, MKB Z19DTH, EZ05
Aktuell: Ford Ranger 3,2l, Automatik, MKB SAFA, EZ 2014

With practically every 4-pole connector combination, you can save on the adapter:
Tap into the veins at the OBD-connector, extend the connector into the socket, and the adapter receives the corresponding plug.

It only gets complicated if you try to use it to take advantage of others' vehicles...

To inspect cars, i.e., before purchasing, a proper adapter would actually be very useful.
As far as I know, all C4s have a 2+2 connection.

If the seller manages to get a customer to use VAGCOM at all ("instead of messing with the electronics or reprogramming them with amateur equipment, and then the car won't run . . ."), then of course it's also possible to use 4 loose wires with connector contacts that are inserted into the diagnostic port icon_razz.gif

Well, I might have to build one myself.
Thank you for the responses. In my last car purchase, I was also able to work on the TDI icon_smile.gif.
Actually, a test drive should be included, as that's the best way to do it. Unless it's a dealer who offers a potential buyer a 20-minute test drive and then insists on dictating the route...

The question is simply how much diagnostic testing can be done on the C4 at all...

These connectors are available for 8 cents at Conrad. And in contrast to the description and a comment here in the forum, there are actually all 4 contacts included, and not just 3.

Incidentally, this is the owner of a C4 icon_evil.gif.

So, wer also sein Diagnosegerät beschädigen möchte, weil icon_smile_thumb_up.gif die 2V und Masse vertauscht wurden (und zwar mit einem vernünftigen 2x2 Adapter, Kabel oder Stecker, die egal wie passen), hat sozusagen Pech gehabt.
I somehow suspected this with the FGB1 and even prepared for such specialists, in which case the power supply is provided via a diode. However, if someone builds a "killer adapter" and suddenly reverses the power supply of a 200-400€ diagnostic device, this will no longer be covered under "warranty" for me. icon_evil.gif

With a reasonable 2x2 adapter, the connectors will not allow for incorrect insertion! And because of the metal retaining clips, the connectors also don't just fall off like other waste!

And since I'm just venting my frustration right now: What do you think, why are there no China-2x2 adapters or diagnostic connectors available in this shop?

No, even though the Chinese were sending me emails/FAXs full of nonsense because I had looked at their waste and found it to be genuine waste!If it wasn't manure, it would have been included in the offer by now!
