Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with VAG-Com 504 and a self-built interface. Does this version work with custom-built interfaces, and if so, with which version of the interface?
Best regards,
Pit.

Anything above 500.0 and upwards only works with dongle hardware.

Just read the release notes carefully.

Quote:
Release 504 must be used with a HEX or KEY Series "high-tech" Interface.

* It does not work with any third-party interfaces or some of our older "low-tech" interfaces.

Hello Pit,

The last version that works with self-built interfaces (e.g., our B1 kit) is our manually unlockable 409.1, which is also continuously maintained (label files, Autoscan, plugins where possible).
[Link not available]

In order for VAG-COM 409.1 to function with a custom-built adapter, the adapter must meet certain criteria in its transmission characteristics. Therefore, only VAG-COM 311.2 can be used with optocouplers without significant effort.

Starting with version 504.1, VAG-COM always queries the license data within the diagnostic system, and manual activation is no longer possible. Therefore, VAG-COM (VCDS) version 504.1 and later only works with our semi-professional and professional systems.

Hi Rainer,

Given that more and more people are likely to encounter similar problems/questions over time, how about incorporating these notes directly into the adapter's FAQ?
Catchy search terms that quickly lead to this thread are, in my opinion, difficult to guess.

Hi Rainer,

Thank you for the comprehensive information. I think the optocouplers probably need to be designed for higher frequencies, as the PC817s seem to struggle even at 2 kHz, according to the datasheet. Perhaps the PC910x would perform better; they are supposed to be high-speed optocouplers, so it might be worth trying.

By the way, I also think Ulf's idea about including it in the technical article is good.
Best regards,
Pit.

Hello.

Okay, it's in. There seems to be some confusion in the author section; some articles are duplicated, and others are no longer easily visible to authors.

Attention: Please, as the author do not delete any "duplicate" files, as they are not actually duplicates, but may appear as such.

Best regards, Rainer.
