Turn off headlights?

Hello, I have a Golf IV that was imported from the EU. When the ignition is turned on, the high beam headlights also turn on. How can I fix this? Can this be resolved with software, or do I need to replace something?

It really depends on how the car was "modified" and where it comes from.
Within the Volkswagen Group, some cars allow you to code "Scandinavian countries" (which refers to the daytime running light function) into the control unit. Other vehicles simply have a connection made at the light switch to achieve the same function.
To check this, you could try removing the light switch. If it has been tampered with, you should be able to see it.
Here's how to remove a light switch:
Push the light switch in, turn it in the direction of the parking light, and then pull it completely out.
You might then see something on the wiring harness... like if anything has been tampered with or modified.
However, if the car comes from the Nordic countries, it's more likely that something was installed from the factory.

The car is from Sweden.

I'll probably check the switch tomorrow, but I think it was probably installed with a WOB unit from the factory.

Is there not a TFL (daytime running light) connector there?
