Hello,
I've https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=9982 read that copper paste and ABS don't really get along, and that at VW, it's even definitively 'forbidden.' My question is: why? Is there a corrosion problem or something like that? I replaced my front brakes three months ago, and, lesson learned, I naturally installed the new pads with copper paste. Could that be the reason why the ABS light has been sporadically (and annoyingly) coming on for about three weeks? What could be the problem? Before questions come up, no, I haven't read the error codes yet because my laptop is broken. But I'll measure the resistance of the sensors soon. But I'm already interested in the issue itself...
Best, Bill.

Hi,
Cu-Paste is really, really, really bad!
Well, at least if you have problems with the dosage. I have been using them with enthusiasm and without any problems for years.
The copper paste is electrically conductive, which can sometimes interfere with the sensor's operation. The ABS system can already malfunction if metal shavings get stuck on the sender ring or the sensor.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,
'Certainly, the copper paste conducts electricity, but the thin layer on the back of the contacts shouldn't do much. The sensor is so far away. I haven't experienced the paste running off before; the saddle isn't made of aluminum, and besides, it's my old habit... However, I'm always happy to learn new things, so I'll overcome my reluctance and investigate this further. Thank you for the quick response.'
Best, Bill.

Hi,
VW now uses a ceramic paste. I also believe that copper paste, when used in the right amount, is okay. Isn't the main reason that some saddles are made of aluminum, and that material doesn't react well with copper?
Regards,
Arne.

That's exactly the reason.
It makes no sense to stock two different types of paste in a workshop and then try to ensure that one is used up and the other remains. Therefore, we will only use ceramic paste from now on. Gruß Bertil

Well, my car is just too cheap; it's only made with lumps of gray cast iron .

Copper paste should be used sparingly and in the correct location!
