Hi,
I've been reading a lot about OBD II tuning lately, and I'm thinking of trying it out on my Passat 1.9 TDI PD with 115 hp.
How should one proceed in this case?
What else do I need besides an ODB diagnostic interface and VAG-Com?
How exactly is it done?
What exactly is being changed in the control unit?
Does anyone know of a detailed guide on how to proceed?
Is there a how-to guide?
I am a computer scientist, so I can roughly imagine what is being done, but I don't know why and how, and especially where?
The best way to explain it is like with the bee and the flower , so that I can understand it too.
Thank you very much!
SlZ

Okay, I don't really want to complain, but please read this.
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.
And then, consider asking for some background information on this forum, especially since it's your first post. Many things have already been explained. A basic understanding of how a motor works is generally expected. This also includes a general understanding of what a MSG (presumably a specific type of device) is capable of.
So, why don't you give it another try?

Yep, and the second stage (chip tuning) is the source of income for an entire industry, and accordingly, they guard their secrets closely. As a result, specialized tools (hardware and software) for tuning are traded at very high prices.
See, for example, chiptuningforum.com. Gruß Ulf

Hi,
I've been reading a lot about OBD II tuning lately, and I'm thinking of trying it out on my Passat 1.9 TDI PD with 115 hp.
After your Passat has a quartz oscillator in the speedometer, if it can even be flashed at all (not all models with 115 hp can be flashed), it can only be done on a diagnostic machine.
How should one proceed in this case?
What else do I need besides an ODB diagnostic interface and VAG-Com?
Basically, it's quite simple: you just need to buy a flash booster or an ACR, a WinOLS version for editing the maps, and then you can get started.
How exactly is it done?
What exactly is being changed in the control unit?
Remove the ECU, connect it to a device, read the EEPROM, modify the maps (e.g., boost pressure, soot reduction, fuel injection quantity, injection duration, etc.), write the modified file back, and test drive.
Okay, let's be serious. Unfortunately/thankfully (it depends on your perspective), reprogramming an ECU is not as simple as flashing a USB stick. Also, there's no 'PS map' in the software that you can simply increase by 20% and be done. This requires experience, technical know-how, and some technical equipment.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Best regards,'
Matthias.

The cost of such an acquisition would never be worthwhile if you only want to "tune" your own vehicle - moreover, a lot can go wrong in the process! I would rather go to a tuner you trust .

Absolutely correct.
You wouldn't build a garage and set up a complete workshop just to change the oil in your own car .
@fulda
Where in Styria are you from?

Just so, it adds a bit more personality to the forum when we know a little bit about each other.
