Hello everyone,
A question about the adaptation channels:
How do the relevant parameters change as a result of the adaptation?
I could imagine, for example, that the respective characteristic curve is simply shifted by the changed value.
Example of injection start adjustment: Adjusting the injection start by 2° earlier shifts the injection start time by the specified 2° in all load and speed conditions, as if the crankshaft position sensor were raised.
Example: Air mass 20 mg/kh lower: The EGR and soot characteristic maps are adjusted so that the previous results (maximum injection quantity or EGR rate) are achieved when the air mass sensor reports 20 mg/kh less.
Example injection quantity: For example, 2 mg/kWh is injected in all load conditions. This does not apply during idling, because the control is based on engine speed, not on the injection quantity.
Example starting amount: For example, 3 mg/kWh are injected at each engine temperature, which is more noticeable with the lower warm-start amount than with a cold engine, meaning that the warm-start behavior is more sensitive to adjustment than the cold start.
Am I correct in these assumptions, or is the adaptation (partial/if so, where?) performed in a more nuanced way, taking into account load and speed? Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf,
You are correct. The adaptation channels shift the values globally. Tschüss

Hi Michael,
A few more questions:
Do you have information about the adaptation ranges for each channel? Specifically, are these the typical measured values, or those strange, abstract values that VAGCOM displays?
I know you've mentioned before that it varies from one STG to another.
But shouldn't there be a common order of magnitude for each channel, even if the individual versions differ by, say, 20%...?
What actually happens with VAGCOM when you exceed the maximum or minimum value by entering it? Gruß Ulf

'Nothing... the control unit doesn't allow those values and sets the maximum possible value instead, then reports that value back. So, if you enter 40000, it either gives an error message ('ping') or returns a value like 33786.'
