...but how?

Stupid question: Can I safely remove the EDC15 unit? And will I be able to reseal it afterwards? The four screws are obvious, but the housing is probably glued on.

Please provide a brief guide...

Thank you & Best regards.
Peter.

Remove the screws and then apply gentle force. icon_wink.gif

Thank you! The adhesive could actually be removed quite gently after I had warmed it up a bit with the hairdryer... (ugh, you can really see what kind of fibers this sealant pulls). icon_wink.gif

Okay, it's not unlocked yet, unfortunately, and hasn't been chip-tuned, so it's not unlocked icon_rolleyes.gif... The software version is still the same as mine, even though it says 12.05.03 on it icon_sad.gif. Anyway, I'll bother the dealer about the PIN tomorrow, and then we'll see what happens...

What do you want to use the base for?
The device works perfectly via OBD, or the 400 series chip can be soldered very quickly anyway icon_biggrin.gif.

Best regards.
Matthias.

...and with a little bad luck, there might not be enough space for the locking mechanism of the base icon_cool.gif.

Best regards, Rainer.

Why would you need to socket it? This thing can be easily connected via OBD, or the 400 chip is soldered very quickly anyway.

Well, I only have VAG-COM, and I was thinking more of a regular programmer. And if something goes wrong, it's better to just solder once – the socket itself, you know icon_wink.gif.

I was actually thinking of a standard PSOP44 package... But that won't be vibration-resistant or suitable for automotive applications, will it?

As Paul Panzer would say:

Absolutely! icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

It's quite possible that after driving over a wave at a slightly higher speed, your vehicle might come to a stop.

What else would I be interested in knowing?
Do you have a soldering iron, lighter, and the appropriate file?
Because if not, then see.

What happens if someone solders something onto your ECU?

Best regards.
Matthias.

"I have a soldering iron and SMD rework tools available, but I'm still missing the right file."

For background information, please see here:

I'm mainly interested in the more recent data (a small test to see if it makes a difference with the automatic transmission). That's why I got this MSG from eBay, and it seems to be working: the engine starts but then shuts off again. This is because: it hasn't been programmed yet, and the seller didn't want to give me the PIN today icon_evil.gif. Well. I'll try somewhere else.

Another reason for the STG was that I had been considering sending it to Rainer. However, since I need my Golf every day, this hasn't been possible so far – but a "second MSG" is quite practical in that regard icon_wink.gif.
