The relatively high number of pump failures is usually related to changing the fuel filters or letting the tank run dry. This is because air entering the pump causes cavitation, which completely destroys the pump. BMW diesels, which are also used in Opel as 6-cylinder engines, are particularly sensitive to this. And the new common-rail diesels. (In workshops, the pumps are usually not manually bled; mechanics work on automated systems, so there is no power or the car won't start shortly after)
