Hi,
A friend has a Golf 3 AFN with a faulty fuel injection pump. I have an AHU (=1Z) fuel injection pump available.
I know that the impeller on the AFN-ESP is slightly different, allowing for higher pressure.
The question is: Does the AFN run identically with the AHU ESP, or is there a noticeable difference? If so: How is the difference manifested, and how significant is it?
Since the car's residual value is not very high due to its age and mileage, the primary goal is to get it running again quickly and affordably.
The search only brought up this topic from 2004, which discusses the reverse direction, which probably works without any problems or noticeable differences: /viewtopic.php?t=7917&highlight=1z+afn+einspritzpumpe
Greetings.
Guste.

Hi,
Possibly, the early pressure increase suggests a possible early onset of early zone precipitation.

The AFN engine runs with this pump, and the change in pressure can subjectively be perceived as making the engine run "smoother." However, there is a slight loss of power, which can be compensated for by adjusting the pump settings and/or making a small modification.

Hello everyone,
Here, I'm referring to my own vehicle. The pump in my AFN engine is broken. Will the pump from an AHU engine fit directly, or are any configurations needed on the connector or something like that?

Um wieviel Leistungseinbusen sprechen wir denn? Was genau muss angepasst werden damit die gleiche Leistung wie vorher vorhanden ist? Tuning?

I might have another AFN ESP module available from an A4.
It should be plug and play.

Generally, the pumps can be replaced without major problems. This has been demonstrated in the past by various conversions from engines like the 1Z/AHU to the AFN.
You only need to be careful with the connector. There are 8-pin and 10-pin connector housings. At first glance, you can tell the difference because the 8-pin connector has a second connector for the ELAB and fuel injector control valve. The 10-pin connector has everything integrated into a single connector housing – these are typically found on the "newer" (Euro3) TDIs like ALH, ASV, AGR, etc., and are often found on pumps that already have a two-piece drive wheel.
You can also identify this type of engine by the vacuum pump located above (on the camshaft). selber schrauben - statt Werkstattpfusch

I'm just adding to this old thread, as I don't want to create a new one.
I want to install an ESP (Engine Control Unit) from a Golf 3 (part number 028130109H) into an A4 AFN (original ESP part number 028130115A). Is this swap possible? The connectors appear to be the same.
I have something in mind regarding "Poti" and "HDK," but I'm not sure what those are referring to, specifically in the context of ESPs.
Hopefully someone can help me. But actually, the ESPs should be able to be swapped out with a plug-and-play system.
Thank you very much for your help!
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"LG" is an abbreviation for "Liebe Grüße," which means "Best regards" or "Best wishes" in English.
